- It has 3 of the 37 of the world's protected natural areas. These areas are home to 70% or more of their original habitat in good condition, and cover at least 10,000 km2 and have a population density of less than 5 inhabitants per square kilometer.
- 22.05% of the coastal and marine areas of Mexico are Marine Protected Areas, in line with the Aichi Goal 11 for Biological Diversity, which aims to conserve at least 10% of the marine and coastal areas and meeting the Development Goal Sustainable number 14 for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
