MEXICAN PARTICIPATION IN THE IBERODOCS SCOTTISH FESTIVAL

The Ibero-American Documentary Film Festival of Scotland (IberoDocs) is the first showcase of Ibero-American culture in Scotland, which focuses on documentaries by Spanish, Portuguese and particularly Latin American filmmakers. IberoDocs, returns with its fourth edition from 10 to 14 May, this time, breaking the limits of language and geography to offer a unique and comprehensive program where Spain, Portugal and Latin America stand out highly, but also with the participation of another 15 award-winning films, covering a total of 11 countries and 10 different languages. The program covers five themes: social and political Activism, Empowerment of Women, awareness of well-being and Care, inspirational documentaries by renowned directors who have travelled to other countries to captured different cultures gathered in the “Outside Gaze”, and Cinematographic Pieces that seek to arouse public curiosity about the cinema itself. |

Mexico will feature the film Aqui Sigo (Still Here) directed by the Mexican Lorenzo Hagerman, who has worked extensively as photography director in some well-known productions such as HELI (Amat Escalante, Best Director, Cannes) and WAY HOME by Rebeca Cammisa, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Feature Documentary in 2010. In recent years Hagerman has produced, edited and directed several documentary projects that have earned him various awards, such as the Honorary Jury Prize at DocumentaMadrid and the award Pantalla de Cristal in Mexico among others. Still Here, presents an intimate journey around the world where we discover what is the existence from the perspective of those who are more than ninety years old, stories of ordinary people who for almost a century have loved, laughed, sung and suffered; declaring the world and themselves "still here". SISTERS FROM ANOTHER MISTER: I AM THE GRASS BENEATH MY FEET

From 27th April to 7th May the exhibition of Sisters from another mister: I am the grass beneath my feet will be showing at the Chalton Gallery in London. Sisters from another mister was born as a joint artistic identity, created by Milda Lembertaitė (Lithuania, 1987) and Amelia Prazak (Switzerland, 1987). Their practice employs genre play, witty sculpture forms, musical interludes, and video works.

The exhibition I am the grass beneath my feet, is the result and inspiration of the residence of the artists in Mexico in 2016, which was supported by AMEXCID and the Art Council of England.

The London Original Print Fair, at the Royal Academy of Arts, offers the opportunity to appreciate and purchase works from all periods of the printmaking: from the first recordings of the Renaissance painter and German theorist, Albrecht Dürer, until the most recent creations of contemporary masters, always in an intimate and pleasant atmosphere for collectors and art enthusiasts. The event allows visitors to enter a world immersed in art and culture, a world that is somehow unknown, as per commonly those prints and engravings are not displayed in public galleries or museums, with the exception of special exhibitions. In this its 32nd edition, the London Original Fair presents the participation of two Mexican artists: Fernando García Correa and Mario Palacios Kaim. |

An essential part of his artistic practice is born from the experimentation and the persistent pursuit of new possibilities and capacities of diverse materials, techniques and languages. With a career spanning more than forty years, he has had thirteen solo exhibitions and has participated in more than thirty collective displays, and his work forms part of both private and public collections in Mexico and other countries.. For the Fair he presents the series BOOM speaks to us of origin, lapse, and rhythm as active elements. Explosions or expansions of matter in interaction with their surroundings, whether maritime or celestial, allow us to read physical qualities such as density and weight in the occupation of space. |

García Correa has worked for more than 30 years promoting the causes of abstract painting and he has tenaciously built a body of work that explores the fields of post-minimalism painting. Fernando’s work has contributed greatly in creating a link between the Mexican abstract art and the international abstract scene. Since 1986, Fernando García Correa has held 30 solo exhibitions in Mexico and abroad, and has participated in collective exhibitions in Mexico, Colombia, the United States, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Switzerland and Canada.

Mexico-US: A tale of two Countires; Colloquium and Fair

The Mexican Student Society of the University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with the Center for Latin American Studies and the Mexican Embassy in the United Kingdom, expressed their interest in the current situation of the relationship between Mexico and the United States by organizing the event: "Mexico -United States: A tale of two countries; Colloquium and Fair. The event will take place on 5 May in the city of Edinburgh and aims to open a discussion of the current relationship of these countries, especially in the field of immigration and trade; besides offering to the public a fair of Mexican products. The discussion will feature the presence of Prof. Mark Aspinwall, an expert on the US-Mexico trade relationship, Prof. Frank Cogliano, an expert on American History and US diplomatic relations, and Hernando Álvarez, Director of BBC Mundo. The Mexican Student Society of the University invites the general public interested in Mexican culture to participate in this event that aims to create a dialogue that not only analyzes the difficulties of the current relationship between Mexico and the United States, but also create a forum that provides a space where attendees will be able to experience first hand the Mexican essence. |

Palacios has shared in his work a peculiar enthusiasm for translating British poetry, as well as per exploring the connection between music and poems, something that has earned him the attention from different countries around the world like the United Kingdom. His participation in the Poetry Circle represents an important addition to the cultural links between the United Kingdom and Mexico, since as being a guest of honour, his work has been translated into Welsh especially for the 2017 edition of the Festival.
