“Güeros” narrates the story of 3 students in the middle of a university protest, who shoot a documentary about their search for a legendary folk singer. The story portrays everyday life in the many faces of Mexico City with a touch of surrealism, diversity in politics, race, friendship and cinema.

Eugenio Polgovsky career as documentarist, filmmaker and visual artist, always explores colliding conditions of life in Mexico from a poetic eye. His stories, from mega-cities to forgotten towns, have received praise at festivals including Cannes and Berlin. Currently, Polgovsky is completing a Fellow Commoner in Creative Arts in Trinity College, Cambridge.

Professor Mario Molina’s lecture: “Climate Change: Science, Policy & Risks”

The Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy is delighted to host Professor Mario Molina for an afternoon celebration of his life in science as he receives an honorary degree from King's College London. Professor Molina will deliver a short talk reflecting on “Climate Change: Science, Policy & Risks”. Following his presentation, Jonathan Shanklin, Emeritus Fellow at the British Antarctic Survey will then speak briefly on the topic of 'The Discovery of the Antarctic Ozone Hole'. |

Molina grew up in Mexico City and recalls being interested in chemistry from a very young age. He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1965 and a Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of California Berkeley in 1972. He has held faculty positions at the University of California and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Molina has received more than 30 honorary degrees and won numerous awards in addition to the Nobel Prize. He serves on the U.S. President’s Committee of Advisors in Science and Technology and is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine, and of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Vatican. Professor’s Molina current research involves the chemistry of air pollution and the science and policy of climate change. To register, click on the link below. |

San Juan Project Performing at Glastonbury and London Bridge City Summer Festival

After conquering Guadalajara, most of the major cities in México and various states in the U.S.A., San Juan Project with the support of ExpressArte is ready to take the UK by storm. The place: Glastonbury, the date: June 24th 2017. Their eclectic musical style playing at the rhythm of jazz fusion, electronic, and alternative accents splashed with the urban irreverence of hip-hop; will be the Mexican delegate in one of the largest music and performing arts festival in the world. San Juan Project was thrilled when invited to Glastonbury, they said “for us, it is a dream come true”. Being the only Mexican band in the festival´s line up, it inspire them to perform to their very best and make their country proud. They’ll be playing material from their past albums “San Juan Project” (2009) and “Sin Miedo y Con Respeto” (2015). The 25th of June, after Glastonbury, San Juan Project will perform in one of the main stages of the London Bridge City Summer Festival. “Micro Macro Photo Litho”: A Collaboration between Enrique Escobedo-Cousin and Erika Servin

Enrique Escobedo-Cousin and Erika Servin will present their collaborative project “Micro Macro Photo Litho” in New Castle University, on the 29th of June 2017 thanks to the support of the Institute for Creative Arts Practice. Through the exhibition, they explore the interdisciplinary exchange in technical processes of photo-lithography. |

The Macro-Prints are composed by medical electrodes, which were designed and fabricated at Newcastle University as part of a project aiming to study the human skeletal muscle. These prints are made using the methods and materials that are common in art printmaking. In contrast, the Micro-Prints focus in societal themes of Mexican popular culture produced by semiconductor fabrication techniques. The prints, which are the size of a fraction of a millimeter, will be placed on glass slides to view under a microscope using a HD digital camera. Erika Servin will lead the work of the “Macro-Prints”, while Enrique Escobedo-Cousin focuses on the “Micro-Prints”. Erika Servin (Mexico City,1972), its a printmaking expert for New Castle University. Doctor Enrique Escobedo-Cousin (Mexico City), researcher and engineer for the same institution. Together they combine art and engineering to reinvent the Mexican tradition of printmaking.
