The renowned writer and Mexican poet, Pedro Serrano, will present his book of poems, Peatlands in Waterstones Picadilly, London. Serrano is a Lecturer at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico’s National University, best known as UNAM for its Spanish acronym), he has also taught at the Universidad de Barcelona and Georgetown University, among others. He co-edited and co-translated, together with Carlos López Beltrán, the ground-breaking anthology The Lamb Generation, which contributed to spread British contemporary poetry in Mexico. He has also translated Shakespeare's King John into Spanish. Many of his poems have been translated into English and have been published widely in the UK and abroad. He is the editor of the UNAM’s Periódico de Poesía, an online poetry journal.

Peatlands (Arc Publications) is Serrano’s first full-length collection to be published in the UK and constitutes a volume of selected poems that draws on all his collections since 1986, chosen by both the poet and his accomplished translator, Anna Crowe. The introduction of the book is by the Scottish poet W.N. Herbert. These wide-ranging, passionate and linguistically thrilling poems form a beautifully balanced introduction to Serrano’s work.

Serrano will be accompanied in the event by translator Anna Crowe and the book’s editor Angela Jarman. The event will take place at Waterstones Picadilly, one of the largest bookshops in Europe in the heart of London's West End.

As part of a cultural exchange with Mexico’s School of Gastronomy and Tourism from the University of Anahuac Mayab of Mérida, Yucatán, Le Cordon Bleu School London, the prestigious school world-renowned for its academic excellence in the culinary arts, will be welcoming two successful Mexican chefs, Fernando Hernández and Eli López, that will give a Mexican cuisine demo.

The demo will be focused in the preparation of “Mexican-Yucatecan–Maya Cuisine", which is characterized by its broad mix of recipes and ingredients, its strong Mayan influence and, its use of exotic condiments.

In collaboration with the Mexican Embassy in the UK.

This is a unique opportunity to discover the secrets of these wonderful recipes alongside these talented Mexican chefs.

In recent decades, Frida Kahlo has become a very influential figure in the art world, both for her pictorial work as for her life. Kahlo is an inspiration to many artists whose works are based on different subjects such as disease and body, life and death, intimacy and autobiography, as well as her magical use of colours and forms far away of the realism.

Lust for Life is an exhibition showing the work of over 42 artists from diverse countries around the world --México, Colombia, Brazil, United States, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, France, Iran, Kazakhstan and Japan, to name only some of them. All these artists have made pieces attracted by Frida Kahlo’s work, style and person.

The exhibition is presented at the Menier Gallery, a space dedicated to contemporary art and design that has a great recognition between London galleries. In addition to the exhibition of artworks, the gallery will give place to a closing event in which Kahlo will be celebrated with colorful clothes and traditional Mexican music.

Katiushka Borges, originary from Venezuela and resident in the UK since 17 years ago, has dedicated her work doing interactive multimedia, connecting art, love and technology, to improve communication in relationships. Borges’ method appeals to ancestral rituals from Mexican, Amazonic, Celtic, Scandinavian and Native American cultures to develop her practices.

Multisensory Installation is Borges’ proposal for her Mexican scholarship supported by the Mexican government —the Mexican Agency for International Development Co-operation (AMEXCID, by its Spanish acronym) of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs— and RAXALAJ (Center of Mayan Art and Philosophy). The project is an interactive multisensory experience in which Borges seeks to embody the oral tradition of Mexican culture in order to inspire new generations to value ancestral wisdom through different media.

The opening ceremony is celebrated with a ritual and the exhibition consists of four parts:

1. The short film “Ancestral Dancebeat” presents different images of ancient dances related with drum rhythms and the four elements.
   
   
2. The presentation of “Sacred Manta” consisting on a textile artwork that brings together 36 pieces of cloth printed and broidered by Mayan grandmothers and grandfathers. The word "manta", meaning “blanket”, has its origins in the sacred and is very significant in Mexican culture.
   
   
3. The presentation of “Interactive Heart Inspiration” which is based on the idea of Mexican “rebozo” and brings together 20 pieces from "Sacred Manta". When the public touches each piece it activates the voice of the elder who made it.
   
   
4. The workshop "Body Balance", based on the four elements: water, earth, fire and wind, promotes connecting viewers with their bodies and with these elements of nature.
