Embassy of México in United Kingdom

Result of the collaboration between Mexico and the United Kingdom during the Dual Year MX UK 2015, “Velvet Petal” is a coproduction between the Scottish Dance Theatre and CEPROMUSIC (Centre for the Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music, CEPROMUSIC by its acronym in Spanish), two assemblies at the forefront of contemporary creation, and key references in the artistic work of both Mexico and United Kingdom.

The Play is a dance inspired by the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and Robert Mapplethorpe photography, who was the inseparable companion of British singer Patti Smith. SDT dancers perform a metamorphosis of the creative act, while assembly CEPROMUSIC accompanies with an artistic creation where music and contemporary dance merge back into one stage.

Velvet Petal has been made possible by the Secretaría de Cultura (Mexican Culture State Department) through Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Institute of Fine Arts), The Anglo Mexican Foundation through Anglo Arts, the British Council and Creative Scotland, among others.
