The 57th edition of the Venice Biennale will take place from 13th May to 26th November with the theme "Encounters and Dialogue". Since 1895, the Venice Biennale has influenced the most important artistic avant-garde events worldwide.

This year the centerpiece of the event "VIVA ARTE VIVA" is under the curatorship of Christine Macel (former director of the Centre Pompidou), who along with the biennale’s  director Paolo Baratta, have proposed theme of this edition to emphasize the role of artists in the vitality of the world in which we live.

The Mexican pavilion will present the exhibition “Life in the Folds" by the famous multidisciplinary artist Carlos Amorales and curated by the renowned art curator Pablo León de la Barra.

Amorales is interested in how images and words shape our reality and define us, and for some time he has carried out projects in which he questions the link between art and society in relation to language and subjectivity, forms of power, and institutional practices.

In “Life in the Folds”, Amorales introduces a formal language that unfolds in a variety of media within the installation. The artist developed a series of compositions that converge in the story of the lynching of a migrant family. In the installation, the image of the lynching turns into a metaphor of the global politic situation where the weakening of the State has led to a society in which justice becomes popular execution.  The work risks ethic and esthetic categories commonly understood as opposites: law before poetry, clarity before darkness, synthesis before narration and figuration before abstraction. In this way, the work arises from the tension between the very concrete and the very abstract.
