México e Irlanda han recorrido el camino, con diferentes compañeros, a diferentes horas y a diferente paso, pero siempre del mismo lado. Ambos han soportado valerosamente los mismos sufrimientos y dificultades a lo largo de su historia: ambos aprendieron y grabaron en su espíritu el inagotable amor por la libertad, la paz y la justicia; ambos moldearon su carácter con arte y un cálido sentido del humor.

En 1975 los dos gobiernos tomaron la decisión de formalizar los antiguos contactos de los dos pueblos antes de convertirse en naciones. Hoy, México celebra ese encuentro con la firme determinación de fortalecer estos lazos para el beneficio recíproco de los mexicanos y los irlandeses.

En esta ocasión, la Embajada de México tiene el honor de presentar el programa de actividades organizado por el Gobierno Mexicano para conmemorar el 40 Aniversario del Establecimiento de Relaciones Diplomáticas entre México e Irlanda como un testimonio de amistad.

Mexico and Ireland have walked  the road, with different companions, at different hours and at a different pace but always in the same lane. Both courageously endured the same pains and hardships throughout their history; both learned and engraved in their spirits the inexhaustible love for freedom, peace and justice; both shaped their characters with art and a warm sense of humour.

In 1975 our two governments took the decision to formalise the old ties of two peoples before being two nations. Today, Mexico celebrates that encounter with the firm determination to enhance our ties for the benefit of both, Irish and Mexicans.

In this regard, the Embassy of Mexico has the privilege to present the program of activities organised by the Mexican Government to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Mexico and Ireland, as a token of friendship

El día de ayer, 29 de mayo, se llevó a cabo en la Residencia oficial del Alcalde de Dublín, Naoise Ó Muirí, la ceremonia de entrega de los premios “Lord Mayors Awards 2013”

Estos premios, que fueron creados desde 1989, se entregan anualmente por los alcaldes de la capital irlandesa para distinguir a las personas o grupos que, a su juicio, han realizado aportaciones especiales a la ciudad y a sus ciudadanos.

Este año, los galardonados con el premio Dublin Digital Champions fueron cinco personas y una organización que, de acuerdo con lo expresado por el Alcalde capitalino, hicieron contribuciones prácticas al avance de la agenda digital de Dublín y son los siguientes; el programador informático e inventor James Eggers; la Directora Ejecutiva de la Asociación Irlandesa de Internet, Joan Mulvihill; el Jefe de Tecnología de la Información del Condado de Fingal, Dominic Byrne; el Director Ejecutivo de Innovación del Periódico Irish Times; Dr Johnny Ryan, el Embajador de México en Irlanda, Carlos Eugenio García de Alba Zepeda, y la plataforma de mujeres profesionales de la industria digital DigiWomen.

En dicho evento, el alcalde dublinés señaló que suscrito –quien agradeció encarecidamente el honor-, había sido premiado por “su destacado trabajo y esfuerzo para promover las ciudades o Hubs digitales”. Asimismo, dijo que este representante mexicano ”ha trabajado incansablemente para conectar las personas, los países y su ciudad natal, Guadalajara, con Dublín como ciudades digitales, a fin de promover el enorme potencial y las oportunidades de negocio que ofrece la tecnología digital”.

To mark the end of 5 event filled days, the village hall in Schull was filled to capacity for the Award Ceremony of the 5th Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival on Sunday night. Over 200 people saw Director Mairtn de Barra from Cork, share the Best of Festival award for his film 'Atrophy' with Mexican film 'Lucy contra Los Limites de la Voz', Directed by Monica Herrera. Mairtn was presented with a cheque for 1,000 and a beautiful Pat Connor sculpture by His Excellency Carlos Garcia de Alba. Mairtn also won Best in Cork and received an extra 500. Cork County Council sponsored this award.

Best Irish Short Film winner, Outside the Box, Director Brian Oglanby received a cheque for 1,500.

Best Young filmmaker Eusong Lee won 1,500 for his film Will. Best Local Interest film, Patsy Dick Directed by Kevin de la Isla ONeill.

Those who couldnt make the event were able to watch the Award Ceremony, which was streamed on line, thanks to the expertise of Martin Levis. Congratulations to all the worthy winners many of whom attended the event.

MEZCAL: PRODUCTO 100% MEXICANO

Before the arrival of the Spaniards to Mexico in the 16th century, the alcoholic beverage that was known was the pulque, obtained through the fermentation of the agave.
However, with the introduction of the distillation process the production of beverages with a high alcoholic content was introduced and became known as the "agave wine", from which emerged the mezcal. The word, mezcal came from the Agave cooked, which in Nahuatl language was: metl or meztl (maguey) and ixcalli (Cook).
Mezcal is a drink that is still deeply rooted in the culture of the regions where it is produced. It is an important part within their main ceremonies and rituals, both religious and social.

Types of Mezcal

According to the NOM-070-SCFI-1994 mezcal is an alcoholic beverage obtained by distillation and rectification of the juice of the agave previously prepared with the sugars extracted from mature heads of Agave, which were previously boiled and subjected to fermentation.

The above standard considers two types of mezcal, according to the percentage of carbohydrates from the agave used in its preparation.

Type I.  Mezcal 100% Agave. Product obtained from distillation and rectification of juice prepared directly and originally with mature heads of Agave. This type of mezcal can be young, rested or aged (old).

Type II. Mezcal. Produce obtained through the distillantion and rectification of the juices, which have been added with up to 20% of other allowed carbohidrates by the legal and applicable dispositions.

Differences between Mezcal and Tequila

• Tequila only uses the tequilana weber agave variety, while mezcal has an extraordinary diversity; at least 30 varieties of agave can be used. Each of them has special aromas and flavors. Some mezcals are made with a combination of several species.

• Mexico has about 200 species of agave, but only 12 or 15 are currently of the mezcal type. Each mezcal is associated with a species of maguey and a peasant region.
