Mexican writers Emiliano Monge and Laia Jufresa, alongside Claudia Ulloa from Peru, will join Daniel Hahn in conversation to talk about their recent works and their participation in the “Hay Festival Bogotá 39 selection”.

Emiliano Monge.

Emiliano Monge is a writer and political scientist, he has published the novels Morirse de Memoria, 2010, El Cielo Árido (winner of the Jaén Novel Prize and the Other Voices-Other Ambits Prize) and Las Tierras Arrasadas 2015, (winner of the ninth Ibero-American Novel Prize of Elena Poniatowska). The short story collections Arrastrar esa Sombra and La Superficie más Honda, as well as the children's book Los Insectos Invisibles. His stories have also appeared in anthologies including Lo Desorden, 2013, México20, 2015 and Sólo cuento VIII, 2016.

 

She studied at the Sorbonne and is the author of the short story book El Esquinista, 2014 and the novel Umami, 2015. Umami has been published in English, French, and Italian, and soon in Dutch, Turkish, Polish and Danish. The novel was selected as the best novel in Spanish at the Festival of first novels in Chambéry, France, received the PEN Translates Award and was a finalist for The Best Translated Book Award 2017. Laia has published in numerous anthologies and magazines such as Letras Libres, Pen Atlas, Words Without Borders and McSweeney's.
