In the framework of the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Scotland, this extraordinary exhibitions is conformed by 30 historic photographs that document the beginning of Mexico’s oil industry, particularly the Mexican Eagle Petroleum Company (“El Águila”). This exhibition honours Sir Weetman Pearson, First Viscount of Cowdray, who played a significant role in building Mexico’s oil industry. | |
As a contractor, Pearson designed and built major infrastructure projects including Mexico City’s drainage, the Port of Veracruz, and a railroad that connected the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. His remarkable business skills were instrumental in building a successful oil business conglomerate that became one of Mexico’s economic drivers for four decades: The Mexican Eagle Petroleum Company (“El Águila”), founded in 1909, was one of the most important companies based in Mexico at the time, and it contributed to position Mexico as the second biggest exporter of oil worldwide by 1921. ¿Where?
