PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR A MEXICAN VISA

 

Step 1: Prepare your documents according to the type of visa that you will apply for.

  

Visitor visa without permission to do remunerative activities

The following list of documents is a guide of the requirements. The Consular Section may request further forms of proof depending on each case.

All required documents must reflect complete name as shown in passport.

  1. Original valid passport and a clear photocopy of the first and last page (vertical).
  2. Proof of legal stay in India (Visa copy and entry stamp) in case the applicant holds another nationality.

  4. One recent passport-sized photograph (4.5 CM X 3.5 CM), white background, without glasses. Face should cover 80% of the photo.
  5. Original (in letterhead and hand-signed) cover letter given by your employer indicating the purpose and length of the trip. (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the person signing the letter)
  6. Appointment letter ( Joining date document). All employees must have been working at least 1 year in the same company. If employees joined in less than one year:
    1. 12 month original bank statement from the company, stamped and hand-signed by the bank on every single page.
    2. Original and copy of a document attesting that the applicant has the experience to carry out the activity for which he is invited (example: original degree or educational certificate), duly apostilled.
  7. Original pay slips (stamped and hand-signed by the company) of the last 3 monthsPlease include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the signatory
  8. Original (in letterhead and hand-signed) letter of invitation from the Mexican company indicating the purpose, length of the trip and specifying what company will covers the employee's expenses. (Please include a copy of the passport or INE card/Residence card permit of the person signing the letter)
  9. Original personal bank statement (stamped and hand-signed) or pass book  (last 3 months) certified by the bank.
  10. Personal Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgment (previous year).
  11. Receipt of visa fee payment (payable in INR at the current exchange rate). For rate of the current month, please see "Step 3: Pay visa application fee" on this website

If the applicant is a business owner, they must also include the following documents:   

  • Partnership deed which should include the name of the applicant or Company Registration before the State Government, duly apostilled.
  • Income Tax Return of the Company for the last two years.
  • Company Bank Statement  for the last three months.

Applicants from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives: all documents issued by their government (college degree, birth certificate, and so) must be legalized first. For this process, click here

  9. IF self-employed:
    • Original documents of bussines establishment apostilled, and
    • Original deed of property ownership duly apostilled.
  10. Personal Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgment (previous year).
  11. Receipt of visa fee payment (payable in INR at the current exchange rate). For rate of the current month, please see "Step 3: Pay visa application fee" on this website.
  12. Applicants from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives: all documents issued by their government (college degree, business establishment, birth certificate, and so) must be legalized first. For this process, click here
  13. For spouses who are financially dependent on the main applicant, include original and copy of marriage certificate duly apostilled and spouse's passport copy.
    • If marriage certificate is from Sri Lanka, Nepal or Maldives, must be legalized. For this process, click here
  14. For children/ applicants under 25 years old who are financially dependent on the main applicant, include original and copy of birth certificate dully apostilled and parents passport copy
    • If birth certificate is from Sri Lanka, Nepal or Maldives, must be legalized. For this process, click here
  15. For parents dependant on the main applicant, include original and copy of birth certificate of the main applicant dully apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs and passport copy
    • If birth certificate is from Sri Lanka, Nepal or Maldives, must be legalized. For this process, click here

ADVICE for parents with MINOR APPLICANTS - As per visa process, all applicants including children need to give biometrics (picture and fingerprints). Please talk to your child before your visit to the Consular Section and prepare her/him for the same in order to process their application in a timely manner.

On that date, we will take a photograph and fingerprints, and an interview will be conducted as to confirm the purpose of the trip.

    • Complete name of the person (same as in the passport) and nationality.
    • Official Registry or Denomination of the organization. (Razón Social de la organización o institución).
    • Number of the official registry, if it corresponds to the organization.
    • Mission/objective of the organization or institution (private or public).
    • Complete address and contact information of the organization or institution.
    • Information of the activity or project that the guest is doing in the organization.
    • Estimated duration of the activity that the guest will undertake.
    • The letter will have to explicitly mention the commitment of the organization or institution to cover all expenses of the person invited during his/her stay in Mexico and the commitment of his return to his/her country of residence.
    • Copy of an official identification with signature and photography of the person that will sign this letter. 
  10. Original and photocopy of the last 12 months bank statements or investment proofs of the Mexican organization or institution, stamped and hand-signed by the bank.
  11. A document attesting that the applicant has the experience to carry out the activity for which he is invited (example: original degree or educational certificate), duly apostilled.

    • Cost of the course or activity.
    • Must include a copy of a government issued ID (photo and signature) of the Signatory.
  6. Proof of economic solvency to cover the studies.
    • People who are receiving an scholarship: Origina (in headletter and hand-signed) letter of acceptance must mention the amount of the scholarship that the student will receive. Must include a copy of a government issued ID (photo and signature) of the Signatory.
    • People who are you are under 25 years old: Their parents can sponsor their studies by providing last three months of bank account certified by the bank
    • Original and one copy of the student's birth certificate dully apostilled or legalized and passport copy of the parent under who's name is the bank account (all name MUST match in all the documents as per passport)
    • People who are above 25 years old: Must demonstrate that they have enough resources to cover their expenses on their own:
      • Original personal Bank Statement (stamped and hand-signed) or Pass Book (last 3 months) certified by the bank.
      • If applicable: Original pay slips (stamped and hand-signed by the company) of the last 3 months. Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the signatory.
  7. Applicants from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives: all documents issued by their government (college degree, birth certificate, and so) must be legalized first. For this process, click here

Applies when the Government of Mexico is hosting and international event.

  6. Original cover letter by the Institution who is sending the foreigner. (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the signatory)

Temporary Resident Visa (NUT holders)

 

The NUT (Número Único de Trámite) issued by the National Institute of Immigration (INM), is a consular interview authorization and does not imply a visa authorization.

If you are informed that the result of your visa interview will be sent to the INM for further review, the INM will notify the employer/main applicant upon their decision to grant or deny the visa.

Please note that NUT validity will not be affected during pandemic and until further notice.

 

The employer must submit the application before the local office of the National Immigration Institute (INAMI) in Mexico, www.inm.gob.mx.

 

INAMI will issue an authorization for an interview at the closest Consulate or Consular Section. Once the applicant has this authorization, he/she needs to submit the following documents, in person, at the nearest Consulate:

  1. Original valid passport and a clear photocopy of the first and last page (vertical).
  2. Proof of legal stay in India (Visa copy and entry stamp) in case the applicant holds another nationality.

  4. Copy of the authorization from the National Immigration Institute (INAMI).
  5. Original cover letter given by your employer indicating the purpose, estimated date of departure and the length of the trip (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the person signing the letter)
  6. Original and copy of job offer letter/employment letter from the Mexican employer, with the following information:
    • Printted in letter head paper.
    • Job position offered
    • Length of job contract
    • Job place
    • Monthly salary amount in Mexican Pesos.
    • Copy of the government issued ID of the signatory
  7. One recent passport-sized photograph (4.5 CM X 3.5 CM), white background, without glasses. Face should cover 80% of the photo.

Visitor visa with permission to do remunerative activities (Work for less than 180 days).

The employer must submit the application before the local office of the National Immigration Institute (INAMI) in Mexico, www.inm.gob.mx. This type of visa applies when the foreigner will be in Mexico less than 180 days.

INAMI will issue an authorization for an interview at the closest Consulate or Consular Section. Once the applicant has this authorization, he/she needs to submit the following documents, in person, at the nearest Consulate:

  1. Original valid passport and a clear photocopy of the first and last page (vertical).
  2. Proof of legal stay in India (Visa copy and entry stamp) in case the applicant holds another nationality.

Temporary Resident Visa (Without NUT)

The main applicant is the person who already holds a Mexican Temporary/Permanent Resident Card. The Mexican resident card holder must accompany the dependants during the visa application procedure.

  10. Mexican resident card holder's original (stamped and hand-signed) bank statement or pass book (last 12 months) from Mexico. No exceptions.
  11. Mexican resident card holder's Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgment (1 year).
  12. Applicants from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives: all documents issued by government must be legalized first. For this process, click here

    • Proof of economic solvency to cover the studies
    • Copy of the government issued ID of the signatory
    • People who are receiving an scholarship: The letter must mention the amount of the scholarship that the student will receive
  6. People who are you are under 25 years old: Their parents can sponsor their studies by providing last three months of bank account certified by the bank
  7. Original and one copy of the student's birth certificate dully apostilled or legalized and passport copy of the parent under who's name is the bank account ( all name MUST match in all the documents as per passport)
  8. People who are above 25 years old: Must demonstrate that they have enough resources to cover their expenses on their own:
    • Original personal Bank Statement (stamped and hand-signed) or Pass Book (last 3 months) certified by the bank.
    • If applicable: Original pay slips (last 3 months) stamped and hand-signed by the company. (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the signatory)

    • Complete name of the person (same as in the passport) and nationality.
    • Official Registry or Denomination of the organization. (Razón Social de la organización o institución)
    • Number of the official registry, if it corresponds to the organization.
    • Mission/objective of the organization or institution (private or public).
    • Complete address and contact information of the organization or institution.
    • Information of the activity or project that the guest is doing in the organization.
    • Estimated duration of the activity that the guest will undertake.
    • The letter will have to explicitly mention the commitment of the organization or institution to cover all expenses of the person invited during his/her stay in Mexico and the commitment of his return to his/her country of residence.
    • Copy of an official identification with signature and photography of the person that will sign this letter.
  10. Original and photocopy of bank statements or investment proofs of the Mexican organization or institution (last 12 months), stamped and hand-signed.
  11. A document attesting that the applicant has the experience to carry out the activity for which he is invited (example: original degree or educational certificate).

Step 4: Attend your appointment. Bring all your documents and payment receipt.

When you book your appointment through CITAS website you will receive a confirmation letter in your email which you must carry with you the day of your appointment.

 

ADVICE for parents with MINOR APPLICANTS - As per visa process, all applicants, including children, need to give biometrics (picture and fingerprints). Please talk to your child before your visit to the Consular Section and prepare her/him for the same in order to process their application in a timely manner.

On that date, we will take a photograph and fingerprints, and an interview will be conducted as to confirm the purpose of the trip.

 

Remember that payment is nonrefundable, even if visa is not approved, and needs to be done prior to the submission of documents. To avoid inconveniences, please make sure that you bring your complete documents.

 

 

ENTRY TO THE CONSULAR SECTION :

  1. Entry will be allowed only to those who have paid the visa fees in advance (RBL bank) and carry the original receipt/ print out of the transaction confirmation.
  2. Surgical mask is compulsory. (It is recommended to bring an extra mask, in case the one in use breaks)
  3. All the documents should be in one folder (plastic). No briefcases are allowed
  4. Bring all the required stationary with you (pencil, pen, glue stick etc.)
  5. Be informed that if any document is missing or you are unable to provide it at the time of document submission, you will have to take a new appointment using the Citas site.
  6. No electronic devices will be allowed ( phones, smart watches, head sets, laptops, tablets, etc)

This is not applicable on temporary residence card holders of U.S.A., Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Schengen, Pacific Alliance (Colombia, Peru, Chile). Holders of this type of residence must apply for a Mexican visa on any of its categories.

Visa de Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas

Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretendan internarse a México en la condición de estancia de visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas, por un periodo de hasta 180 días.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original;
  2. Original del documento que acredite su legal estancia, si la persona extranjera no es nacional del país donde solicita la visa, y
  3. Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
  1. Solvencia económica.
  2. Invitación de una organización o institución pública o privada.
  3. La persona chofer u operadora de transporte de carga y que pretenda ingresar al territorio nacional con el único objeto de cargar o descargar mercancías.
  4. Causa humanitaria.
  5. Investigación científica o recolección de muestras en territorio nacional o aguas jurisdiccionales del país, previa obtención de las autorizaciones de las autoridades nacionales competentes en aguas de jurisdicción territorial.
  6. Participación en un evento auspiciado o patrocinado por la Administración Pública Federal, así como por los órganos constitucionales autónomos por una temporalidad máxima a 180 días.

Aplicable a personas extranjeras con amplia solvencia económica, viajeros frecuentes, personas prominentes, cónyuge, concubina o concubinario o figura equivalente de mexicano o de residente temporal o residente permanente, familiar de residente temporal o residente permanente, o de funcionario diplomático o consular acreditado en México y supervisores de una empresa extranjera con filial en territorio nacional o personal ejecutivo de filiales u oficinas comerciales de empresas mexicanas en el extranjero que deseen internarse a México en la condición de estancia de visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas y que no tengan como propósito residir en territorio nacional.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original.
  2. Original del documento que acredite su legal estancia, si la persona extranjera no es nacional del país donde solicita la visa.
  3. Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
  1. Solvencia económica.
  2. Viajero Frecuente.
  3. Persona prominente.
  4. Familiar de mexicano.
  5. Familiar de persona extranjera residente temporal o residente permanente.
  6. Familiar de funcionario o funcionaria diplomático o consular acreditado en México portador de pasaporte ordinario.
  7. Supervisor de empresa extranjera con filial en territorio nacional o personal ejecutivo de oficinas comerciales o empresas mexicanas en el exterior.

Aplicable a la persona extranjera de nacionalidad a la que el Estado mexicano le permita tramitar y obtener la visa por medios y registros electrónicos, cuando pretenda viajar a México por vía aérea para internarse en la condición de estancia de Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje vigente, que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y que acredite tener una nacionalidad a la que el Estado mexicano permita obtener la Visa Electrónica.
  2. Llenar la solicitud de Visa Electrónica, proporcionando la información requerida por la autoridad migratoria.
  3. Fotografía digital del rostro de la persona solicitante sin lentes, con fondo blanco similar a la foto del pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje, en formato .jpg, .jpeg o .png, y con peso de 2 a 5 MB.
  4. Imagen de la hoja de datos del pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje en formato .jpg, .jpeg o .png, y con peso de 2 a 5 MB, rectificando que la imagen no salga de los parámetros de la hoja de datos del documento y se visualice correctamente.
  5. Viajar a México por vía aérea.
  6. Pago de derechos se efectuará de conformidad con lo normado en el artículo 22 de la Ley Federal de Derechos vigente.

Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretendan internarse a México en la condición de estancia de Visitante con fines de adopción y que sean nacionales o residentes habituales de un país miembro de la Convención de la Haya sobre la Protección de Menores y la Cooperación en Materia de Adopción Internacional o de un país con el que México haya suscrito un convenio en la materia.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original;
  2. Original del Informe de adoptabilidad o preasignación emitido por el Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia, en la que se señale información sobre la identidad del niño, niña o adolescente;
  3. Original de aceptación de la asignación del menor y de continuación del procedimiento de adopción que emita la Autoridad Central del Estado Receptor en el que se exprese su voluntad y la de los solicitantes para continuar con el procedimiento de adopción, y
  4. Pago de derechos por la recepción, estudio de la solicitud y, en su caso, la autorización de la visa de conformidad con lo establecido en la Ley Federal de Derechos.

NOTA: Dentro de los siguientes 30 días naturales contados a partir de su ingreso a territorio nacional, la persona extranjera deberá obtener ante el Instituto Nacional de Migración la tarjeta de visitante con fines de adopción.

Visa de Residencia Temporal

Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretendan internarse a México en la condición de estancia de residente temporal con el objeto de permanecer por un tiempo mayor a 180 días y no mayor que 4 años.

Este tipo de visa le permite al extranjero trabajar en nuestro país, siempre y cuando salario que perciba sea pagado en el extranjero.

En caso de contar con una oferta de empleo en México y recibir su salario en territorio nacional, la empresa o persona física deberá gestionar, de manera previa, directamente ante el Instituto Nacional de Migración la autorización para la expedición de visa del extranjero.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original;
  2. Original del documento que acredite su legal estancia, si la persona extranjera no es nacional del país donde solicita la visa, y
  • Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
    1. Solvencia económica.
    2. Investigación científica en aguas jurisdiccionales de México.
    3. Invitación de una organización o de una institución pública o privada.
    4. Al amparo de un instrumento jurídico internacional de movilidad de personas.
    5. Unidad Familiar.
    6. Bienes inmuebles en territorio nacional.

NOTA: En cualquier caso, la persona extranjera deberá tramitar dentro de los siguientes 30 días naturales contados a partir de su ingreso al territorio nacional, la tarjeta de residencia que acredite su estancia legal y le permita permanecer en territorio nacional.

Visa de Residente Temporal Estudiante

Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretendan internarse a México en la condición de estancia de residente temporal estudiante.

El extranjero que cuenta con la condición de estancia de Residente Temporal Estudiante podrá solicitar al Instituto Nacional de Migración autorización para desempeñar actividades remuneradas en territorio nacional.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original;
  2. Original del documento que acredite su legal estancia, si la persona extranjera no es nacional del país donde solicita la visa, y
  3. Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
  1. Estudios
  2. Al amparo de un Instrumento jurídico internacional de movilidad de personas

 

La solvencia podrá ser acreditada por el solicitante, por sus padres o por quien ejerza la patria potestad o la tutela, siempre que no sean mayores de veinticinco años, o con carta de la institución educativa que acredite que ha sido beneficiario de una beca o documento de una institución bancaria o financiera que acredite que cuenta con el financiamiento.

Nota: La tarjeta de residencia temporal estudiante que acredite su estancia legal y le permita permanecer en territorio nacional se deberá tramitar dentro de los siguientes 30 días naturales contados a partir de su ingreso al territorio nacional.

Solicitud de Cita:

Una vez que reúna los requisitos necesarios para solicitar su visa, deberá agendar una cita a través del portal “MiConsulado”  https://www.miconsulado.sre.gob.mx/ o https://www.miconsulado.sre.gob.mx/citas-consulares.

Sitio en donde los solicitantes deberán seleccionar el trámite requerido y solicitar su cita, en la Embajada o Consulado de México donde se presentará.  

 

Información importante: Contar con una visa no garantiza el ingreso a territorio nacional. Sólo permite que la persona extranjera se presente en el punto de entrada para solicitar su ingreso al país.

El ingreso o internación a México está condicionada a la aprobación de las autoridades sanitarias y migratorias en los puntos de entrada al país, conocidos como filtros migratorios, quienes podrán en todo momento, realizar una entrevista acerca del motivo de su viaje y verificar los requisitos establecidos en las disposiciones jurídicas aplicables (artículo 37 de la Ley de Migración y 60 de su Reglamento).

 

 

 

Visa de Residencia Permanente

Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretendan internarse en la condición de estancia de residente permanente.

 

Requisitos:

  1. Pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje que sea válido conforme al derecho internacional y vigente, en original;
  2. Original del documento que acredite su legal estancia, si la persona extranjera no es nacional del país donde solicita la visa, y
  3. Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
  1. Jubilados o pensionados
  2. Unidad familiar
  3. Sistema de puntos

Tipos de Visas solicitadas ante el Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM)

  1. Visa de Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas, cuando es solicitada por
  2. razones humanitarias
  3. Visa de Visitante con permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas, cuando es solicitada por
  4. oferta de empleo.
  5. Visa de Residencia temporal, cuando es solicitada por oferta de empleo o por unidad familiar.
  6. Visa de Residencia permanente, cuando es solicitada por sistema de puntos, por unidad familiar o por derivación del reconocimiento de la condición de refugiado.
