IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

If you are holder of a valid U.S./Canada/U.K./Japan/Schengen Country visa, or you a Permanent Resident in any of these countries, you do not require a visa to go to Mexico, no matter your nationality.

At the point of entry, Mexican immigration authorities may ask you some questions to confirm the reasons of your visit, the length of your stay, and how you are financing your trip. They may also request printed documents such as hotel reservations, return tickets or travel itineraries.

The following questions are examples of what you might be asked:

  • Why are you travelling to Mexico? What activities will you be engaging in?
  • Where are you staying? May I see your reservation?
  • Do you have any acquaintances in the country?
  • How will you cover your expenses? How long will you be staying in Mexico?
  • If you intend to take part in short-term academic activities, in which program will you participate and in what institution?
  • How will you leave the country? May I see your return ticket?

As in all countries, Mexican immigration authorities will verify the authenticity of all the documents you present and the truthfulness and consistency of the information you provide. They will also confirm that there is no outright restriction for your entry into the country.
The reasons for your trip must match your visa type.
Everyone visiting or living in Mexico has rights which must be respected. Among others, foreigners have the right to contact their embassy or consulate.
