IMPORTANT NOTES
- In all cases, the visa stamped on the passport must be exchanged for a residence card upon arrival to Mexico within the first 30 calendar days after entering the country. The residence card is issued by the Mexican Immigration Institute (INM) and is proof of legal stay and allows the person to remain in the country. To apply for an appointment and consider related expenses for the resident card please visit the INM website (https://www.gob.mx/inm).
- Note- If you will have a job offer and will receive your wage in Mexico to perform lucrative activities (work permit), the employer in Mexico must request the work permit at the National Migration Institute in Mexico: https://www.gob.mx/inm and obtain a “NUT” (Número Único de Trámitein Spanish) before applying for a visa at the Embassy.
- Holding a visa allows you to travel to a port of entry and request permission to enter the country. The official from the Immigration Institute of Mexico (INM) at the point of entry has the ultimate decision on admission of travellers. Holding a visa does not guarantee entry to Mexico.
In addition to a valid passport or travel document and visa (if applicable), immigration officials may ask for documents proving the length and purpose of your trip, for example:
- Return airplane tickets and accommodation bookings
- Travel itinerary in Mexico or purpose of the trip
- Financial means to cover travel expenses during the stay in Mexico
