Information for Norwegians

 

 

Norwegian citizens DO NOT need a Tourist Visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or any unpaid activity in Mexico as long as the visit does not exceed 180 days. 

 

At the entry point in Mexico, Norwegians will have to present:

ü  Norwegian valid passport;

ü  Multiple immigration form (FMM) and customs form, which will be handed on the airplane/airport/entry port;

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

ü  The immigration officials may ask for extra documents proving the duration and purpose of your trip, for example:
       a.    Return airplane tickets and hotel bookings,
       b.    Travel itinerary in Mexico or purpose of the trip.

  

 

Electronic Authorization System (SAE) for Russians, Ukranians and Turkish Nationals

 

 

The Electronic Authorization System (SAE) allows Russians, Ukrainians and Turkish to obtain an electronic authorization to travel to Mexico without a consular visa.

 

To use the SAE and to obtain an electronic authorization is necessary to meet this conditions:

ü  To be Russian, Ukrainian or Turkish.

ü  To hold a valid passport.

ü  Arrive to Mexico by plane.

 

If you meet this conditions and you want to obtain an electronic authorization, you must submit an application online at:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

ü  In order to travel to Mexico with an electronic authorisation, please verify that the airline with you may travel is part of SAE scheme.

 

ü  The authorisation will be valid for 30 days and a single entry. 

 

ü  If for any reason the airline is not able to verify your electronic authorisation during check-in, your boarding might not be allowed.

 

ü  Regardless of the nationality, any foreigner holding any of the following documents will not require a Mexican visa or SAE:

a)              Document proving permanent residence in Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any Schengen Country, and the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia and Peru). The residence card should state explicitly "permanent residence"

 

b)              Valid Visa to Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or any of Schengen Country. (The Norwegian resident card does not count as valid visa).

 

c)               Card APEC Business Traveller (ABTC) adopted by Mexico.  

 

Tourist Visa

IMPORTANT NOTES

Please note that regardless of nationality, any foreigner holding any of the following documents will not require a Mexican visa:

 

  • Document proving permanent residence in Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any Schengen Country (including Norway), and the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia and Peru). The residence card should state explicitly "permanent residence".

Tourist VISA requirements and Process

 

 

This visa allows you to visit Mexico for activities that do not involve receiving any kind of remuneration as tourism, transit through Mexico, businesses (such as attending meetings, supervisory visits, training or consultancies in Mexico), activities related to the exercise of ministers worship, technical jobs in companies (without pay in Mexico), philanthropic activities, sporting goods transport, medical treatments, attending fairs and / or conferences as well as any kind of studies of less than 180 days.

Upon reception and verification, the Embassy will provide the applicant with a link to schedule an appointment for an interview in person at the Embassy.

All visas require the physical presence of the applicant in person at the Embassy.

If the visa application is successful, the visa will be stamped in the passport or travel document the same day of the interview in most cases.

In case of a visa for a child, both parents or legal guardians should be present as well in the interview or alternatively must grant their permission for the visa to be obtained through a power of attorney.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Residency status: Resident card or documents proving legal stay in Norway
  1. Financial Solvency: Official documents proving your financial solvency. Any of the following:
  • Monthly pay slips (employment or pension) that show that you have had a monthly net income equivalent to at least 100 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($27,880.00 Mexican pesos approximately 15,639.20 NOK* after tax) for the previous three months AND letter of employer or contract proving at least one year of employment.
  • For over 18-years-old full-time students, the minimum monthly net income is lower, equivalent to 60 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($16,728.00 Mexican pesos approximately 9,383.52 NOK* after tax). Applicants under these circumstances must demonstrate they are currently enrolled in a full-time educational programme providing a certificate of studies or letter from the college or university and pay slips or pension or grant/scholarship statement with the required amount.

 

Or,

  • Bank statements of the last three months with a monthly average balance equivalent to at least 300 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($83,640.00 Mexican pesos approximately 46,917.60 NOK*).

*This amount is subject to change according to exchange rates set every month.

  1. Invitation letter: only for cases where the applicant has been invited by an organization, public or private institution to participate in an event in Mexico.

 

On the day of the appointment, the applicant must present all documents previously sent by email in original form (printed application, passport, residency card, pay slips or bank statements as well as any other documents if required by the consular officers). Also, applicant must bring one passport size photograph (recent, color photo measuring 3.0 x 3.5 cm, front view, with white background, without glasses and/or piercing). Homemade photos will NOT be accepted.

 

There is a consular fee that must be paid on the day of the interview for the visa application to be processed. The fee is 54 USD to be paid in NOK directly at the Embassy on the day of the appointment, according to the current exchange rate. In January 2025, the amount in NOK is 614 NOK. Please note that the Embassy can only take payment in Norwegian debit cards.

Holding a visa allows you to travel to a port of entry and request permission to enter the country. The official from the Immigration Institute of Mexico (INM) at the point of entry has the ultimate decision on admission of travellers. Holding a visa does not guarantee entry to Mexico.

In addition to a valid passport or travel document and visa, if applicable, immigration officials may ask for documents proving the duration and purpose of your trip, for example:

  • Return airplane tickets and accommodation bookings,
  • Travel itinerary in Mexico or purpose of the trip

Financial means to cover travel expenses during the stay in Mexico

  

 

Temporary Resident VISA

 

Applicable to foreign nationals who intend to enter Mexico with a temporary resident status in order to remain for longer than 180 days and less than 4 years. The visa can be renew in Mexico.

All visas for travel, temporary or permanent permits require the physical presence of the applicant in person at the Embassy.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Residency status: Resident card or documents proving legal stay in Norway (for applicants who are not Norwegian citizens)
  1. Financial Solvency: Official documents proving your financial solvency. Any of the following:
  • Pay slips of the last 6 months proving a net monthly income or pension equivalent to 300 hundred days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($83,640.00 Mexican pesos, approximately 46,918 NOK*after tax), or
  • Monthly bank statements of the last 12 months proving that you have investments or a bank account balance with a monthly average equivalent to 5,000 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($1,394,000.00 Mexican pesos, approximately 781,959.95 NOK*)

Temporary residence permits may also be requested based on other particular circumstances, including the following, for which additional documentation may be presented:

  1. For temporary resident student:
    1. Letter of acceptance from the academic institution;
    2. Financial solvency to cover expenses (scholarship, grants or private funds)
  2. For family reunification (parents, under 18 years children, spouses, domestic partners) to a Mexican or a foreign person who holds a temporary, student, or permanent resident visa.
  3. By invitation from an organization or a public or private institution to participate in a non-remunerated activity.
  4. Under an international legal instrument for the mobility of persons
  5. To conduct scientific research in Mexican territorial waters.
  6. By notarial deed stating ownership of real estate in the National territory of Mexico with a value equivalent to forty 40,000 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($11,152,000.00 Mexican pesos, approximately 6,255,679.59 NOK*) for economic or business purposes.
  7. For investment, any of the following:
  • -Legal proof of participation of capital in a Mexican company with a value equivalent to 20,000 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($5,576,000.00 Mexican pesos, approximately 3,127,839.79 NOK*); or
  • Document proving the ownership of personal property by a foreign corporation, with a value equivalent to 20,000 days of the 2025 minimum wage in Mexico City ($5,576,000.00 Mexican pesos, approximately 3,127,839.79 NOK*) for economic or business purposes; or
  • -Proof of economic activities in Mexico

 

*This amount is subject to changes according to the latest currency exchange rates.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In all cases, the visa stamped on the passport must be exchanged for a residence card upon arrival to Mexico within the first 30 calendar days after entering the country. The residence card is issued by the Mexican Immigration Institute (INM) and is proof of legal stay and allows the person to remain in the country. To apply for an appointment and consider related expenses for the resident card please visit the INM website (https://www.gob.mx/inm).
  • Note- If you will have a job offer and will receive your wage in Mexico to perform lucrative activities (work permit), the employer in Mexico must request the work permit at the National Migration Institute in Mexico: https://www.gob.mx/inm and obtain a “NUT” (Número Único de Trámitein Spanish) before applying for a visa at the Embassy.
