Indonesia is a contracting party of the Convention of 5 October 1961, Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961 Convention/Apostille Convention), starting from 4 June 2022.
As stipulated in Article 1 and 2 of the Convention, Indonesia exempts the legalisation requirement for public documents issued by another contracting party of the Convention for use in Indonesia.
Furthermore, the Government of Indonesia appoints the Directorate of Central Authority and International Law under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights as its competent authority. During the transition period, the office will only issue an Apostille certificate for public documents listed below and any new additional documents to be included in the list will be circulated in due course:

- Statement Letters
- Memorandum of Understanding
- Acknowledgment or Endorsement of Children Certificates
- Determination/Intangible of Cultural Heritage Certificates
- Approval document for the Transfer/Cooperation of State-Owned Overseas Assets
