WORKING VISIT OF LAURA BARRERA FORTOUL DIRECTOR GENEARL OF THE NATIONAL SYSTEM FOR INTEGRAL FAMILY DEVELOPMENT OF MEXICO (DIF) TO HUNGARY

  • The Director General of the National System for Integral Family Development of Mexico (DIF) visited the András Pető Faculty in Budapest, Hungary. 
  • Laura Barrera Fortoul signed a Letter of Intention of Conductive Education and a Consensus Agreement between the SNDIF and the “Connosotros A.C.” Association.

Budapest, Hungary, February 19th 2018. – Between February 17th and 19th 2018, the Director General of the National System of Integral Family Development of Mexico (SNDIF or DIF), Laura Barrera Fortoul, paid a working visit to Budapest, Hungary, within the framework of the cooperation project between the authorities of the DIF and Semmelweis University in Hungary for the application of the Conductive Education Method or Pető System in Mexico.

On February 19th, the Mexican Delegation of DIF held working meetings with the Eszter Daróczy, Dean’s Representative for International Relations of the András Pető Faculty, as well as with Dr. Andrea Zsebe, Acting Dean of András Pető Faculty of Semmelweis University (APF-SU). During this meeting, the basis for the celebration of an agreement or collaboration agreement with Semmelweis University was discussed; with the objective of establishing collaborative links with András Pető Faculty, for the application of the Conductive Education Method or Pető System, on patients suffering from cerebral palsy in Mexico throughout the national territory. Eventually, a Letter of Intention to promote the Program of Conductive Education and a Consensus Agreement between the DIF and “Connosotros A.C.” Association were signed with the presence of the Ambassador of Mexico in Hungary, David Nájera who signed as witness of honor.

The Mexican Delegation, headed by Laura Barrera Fortoul, was also integrated by Mrs. Elena Cepeda de León de Ramírez, President of the System for Integral Family Development of Morelos; Dr. Margara Millán Moncayo, President of Connosotros A.C. Association in Morelos; Mr. Edgar Mauricio Acra Alva, Head of the Social Integration and Assistance Unit; and Ismael Ordoñez Hernández, Head of the Attention for Vulnerable Population Unit.

The Conductive Education Method or Pető System is recognized worldwide for having created a method specifically developed for children and adults with psychomotor disorders such as cerebral palsy. The Pető System will be implemented in Mexico through these public institutions, focusing on low-income or communities in dire need. This institutional approach is a reflection of the cooperation dialogue that exists between Mexico and Hungary, an example of the use of human talent and the experience of both countries working towards a common goal.
