PARTICIPATE IN THE 21ST “ÉSTE ES MI MÉXICO” (THIS IS MY MEXICO) CHILDREN’S DRAWING CONTEST 2017 - “THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY AND ITS LIFECYCLE IN NORTH AMERICA"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME) is pleased to invite you to participate in the XXI Children’s Drawing Contest “Este es mi México”, with the subject "The Monarch Butterfly and its lifecycle in North America".

Migration is a movement of population (human or animal) from the place of origin to another destination, which implies a change in the habitual residency for human beings or in the habitat for migratory animal species.

Animal migration is the seasonal or permanent movement of animals from one habitat to another.

The migration of the Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) involves three countries of North America: Canada, United States of America and Mexico. The migratory life of Monarch Butterfly is a very interesting process, specially the way in which this specie is able to return to the same hibernating sites through many generations; thus, this process is still a research subject.

The Institute of Mexicans Abroad celebrates this remarkable topic for this XXI Children’s Drawing Contest “Este es mi México”.

The Monarch Butterfly uses the region of North American as a place of transit, reproduction and transformation, and it is up to the human beings to watch the preservation of its habitat to avoid its extinction.

This year, we convene all children to know and draw the Monarch Butterfly, its habitat and migration through the three countries, the stages of its life and all the challenges that faces on its path and its destiny.

We count on you all to star this new adventure.

Visit the Milenio Group page to know more about the Monarch Butterfly.
