PASSPORT

The passport is the identity and travel document that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its passport issuing offices and consular representations, issues to Mexican National to prove their nationality and identity to request foreign authorities to allow free passage.

The passport, allow to travel to other countries, it universally accepted as an identification and proof of nationality.

 

APPOINTMENTS

FIRST TIME

1. Proof of Mexican nationality by submitting the ORIGINAL of one of the following documents:

  • Birth certificate. It must indicate the place of birth: municipality and state of the Republic. For example: Cuernavaca, Morelos: Tlalpan, Mexico City, Culiacan, Sinaloa, etc.
  • Certificate of Mexican nationality.
  • Declaration of Mexican nationality by birth.
  • Letter of naturalization.
  • High security consular card.

 

2. To prove your identity, submit the ORIGINAL of any of the following official documents with a photograph, whose data must coincide faithfully with those of the document with wich you are proving your nationality.

  • High security consular registration card in force.
  • Voting card issued by the (Instituto Federal Electoral) or by the (Instituto Electoral Nacional) in force.
  • National Military Service Identity Card.
  • Professional license
  • Professional degree
  • Certificate of Mexican nationality
  • Declaration of Mexican nationality
  • Letter of naturalization.

 

RENEWAL

For the renewal or exchange of a passport, the applicant must submit the passport to be renewed.

In the case of renewal for under 18, the requierements are listed in the “Minors” section.

If the passport does not indicate the complete place of birth (municipality/ city and state of the Republic), a certified copy of the birth certificate must be presented, in wich contains the place of birth.

If the passport has any restriction or observation, you must comply with the requirement indicated; if it is NOT EXCHANGEABLE, you must present the complete documentation as if it were for the first time.

 

What happens if I cannot find my passport or it is stolen?

In these cases, you must go to the police department of the city where you live and file a report of the loss of your passport, which must be presented at the consular office with the rest of the requirements as if it were a first-time issuance.

 

UNDER 18 YEARS OLD

For the issuance of passports to minors, the father and mother, or those exercising parental authority or guardianship, shall:

 

1. The father and the mother must appear with the minor before the Consular Section and prove the relationship by submitting the birth certificate.

 

2. Prove the Mexican nationality of the minor by presenting the ORIGINAL of one of the following documents:

-Birth certificate

-Certificate of Mexican Nationality

-Letter of Naturalization

-High-security consular card

 

3. Proof of the identity of the minor by presenting the ORIGINAL of any of the following documents:

-Passport of another nationality

-School certificate of primary, secondary, or high school education issued by a Mexican school authority.

-Certified report card of any school year with a photograph and official seal, issued by a Mexican school authority.

-Proof of the grade of studies duly stamped by the educational institution and with a photograph of the minor.

-Official identification issued by the local authority.

-Residence card from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman or Yemen.

-For the children under 7 years of age, submit a certificate with a photograph and stamp from medical institution or a private doctor in the place where the child resides.

 

4. Grant the consent of the father and mother by signing the authorization from (OP-7).

 

5. Present valid official identification with a photograph and signature of the father and mother, in which the names on the identifications coincide faithfully with the name that appears on the birth certificate of the minor.

-Valid passport (in case the father or mother is of a nationality other than Mexican, only the passport will be accepted.

-High Security Consular card

-Voting card.

 

What happens if one of the parents are in another country?

The OP7 is the form to be filled out by the parents, through which he or she gives his or her authorization for the minor to obtain a passport.

If the father, mother, or both cannot appear personally to carry out the procedure for the issuance of the minor’s passport, they must go to the Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs closest to their address, if they are in Mexico, to sign the authorization, or they must go to the closest Mexican Consulate if they live abroad, to sign the OP7 form.

 

VALIDITY AND PAYMENT OF FEES

Mexican passports are issued for 1,3,6 and 10 years and the fees depend on the period of validity.

Fees are fixed in U.S. dollars; however, payment must be made in Saudi Riyals (SAR), prices may vary according to the exchange rate. To check fees click here

 

DELIVERY TIME

On the day of your appointment at the Consular Section, the applicant’s biometric data will be taken and the information will be sent to Mexico City where the passport will be printed. The process takes 6 weeks.

 

SPOUSE’S LAST NAME

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not issue passports with the last names of the spouse. Passports will be issued with the applicant’s surnames at birth. However upon request of the applicant, an entry may be made in the passport with the surname of the spouse if the original marriage certificate or certified copy is presented.

Note: If the marriage took place in Mexico or in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman or Yemen, the original document will be sufficient to add the annotation. If the marriage was performed in another country, the document must be apostilled or legalized and translated into Spanish by a Mexican certified translator or an official translator in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman or Yemen.
