Type of visa
The information provided here is official and is constantly updated, so it is not necessary to corroborate it by calling or e-mailing the Consular Section of the Embassy. Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico? Immigration facilities In Switzerland, the equivalent of a permanent residence permit is a type “C” permit, so people with this type of permit do not require a visa to travel to Mexico. On the other hand, holders of a Swiss type “B” residence permit, whose nationality requires a visa, must apply for one at the Embassy. In accordance with international practice, being a Mexican visa holder does not guarantee entry into Mexico. The visa allows its bearer to travel to Mexico, but entry into the country is authorized exclusively by Mexican Immigration authorities upon arrival.

ALL travelers who will be performing paid work in Mexico require a "work permit", which is requested by the employer at the Mexican immigration office (Instituto Nacional de Migración) in Mexico. Once you have received the authorization number (NUT number), you have 30 days to make an appointment to visit us and pick up your visa. A Mexican visa is not required for tourism, transit or unpaid activity with a stay of less than 180 days, as long as the person has a valid and current multiple entry visa or a permanent residence permit from one of the following countries:
United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Schengen countries.
NOTE: Due to the absence of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Kosovo, Kosovar citizens cannot currently travel to Mexico.
Nationals of Russia, Türkiye or Ukraine who do not fall under the above assumption can apply for an electronic visa, through the following link: https://www.inm.gob.mx/sae/publico/solicitud.html.
ATTENTION: if you are traveling to Mexico with an electronic permit (SAE), please check first if the airline you are traveling with accepts the SAE. If for any reason the airline cannot verify your SAE at check-in, your boarding will not be approved.
As of January 2024, visa applications for non-remunerated activities (tourism, business, transit, among others) for up to 180 days can be made exclusively through the website https://citas.sre.gob.mx/. If your stay in Mexico will exceed this period, please consult the application procedure in the corresponding section.
Prior to requesting an appointment at the above website, please make sure you have the complete requirements listed below.
2. Copy of the passport data sheet, which must be valid for at least six months prior to visa issuance.
3. Swiss residence permit, if you do not have Swiss nationality.
4. A recent passport-size photo. The photo must be taken from the front, without glasses and on a white background. Please make sure that your photo is fully visible and frontal.
5. Proof of your financial situation, for which you must submit:
a) Payroll receipts for the last 3 months proving at least CHF 1'300.00 monthly income, accompanied by proof of employment for at least one year, issued by your employer.

b) Bank statements for the last 3 months confirming at least CHF 3'850.00 average monthly balance.
If the applicant is an economic dependent (minor or spouse): original and copy of the passport of the person who will prove financial solvency; And original and copy of the document that proves the family relationship with the sponsor:
The visa is valid for 180 days after issuance and for multiple entries.
If the applicant is a minor, both parents must be present to sign the visa application. If only one parent shows up, the parent who does not attend must send an authorization signed by a notary in English or Spanish granting authorization for her child to obtain the visa.
Documents issued in countries that are not signatories to the apostille convention (see list) must be legalized by the Mexican Embassy or Consulate in the country issuing the document.
If you require a visa to visit Mexico, it is recommended that you purchase your flight tickets after you have obtained the visa.
