“Border Voices choir performs a programme of Mexican polyphony of the 17th century"

     Border Voices is a chamber choir with a passion for the music of the 15th and 16th centuries. Since giving its inaugural concert at the Leominster Festival in 2005, Border Voices has established itself as one of the finest choirs in Herefordshire.

     The group’s next concert will be in the Leominster Priory on Sunday 26th March, 7.30pm. The programme will be of polyphonic music from the New World, with music from manuscripts of the early 17th century originating in Mexico Cathedral.

     The first half will be a performance of the powerful but rarely heard Missa Aufer a Nobis, by Mexican-born Francisco Lopez Capillas (c.1605 - 1674). Edition newly prepared specifically for this concert by David Hatcher.

     The second half will contain two settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, by two more Mexican composers: Juan de Lienas (fl. 1617 - 1654) and Antonio Rodriguez de Mata (d. 1643), the latter having been Maestro de Capilla of Mexico City Cathedral from 1618, along with other Mexican music for Lent.
