“Micro Macro Photo Litho”: A Collaboration between Enrique Escobedo-Cousin and Erika Servin

     Enrique Escobedo-Cousin and Erika Servin will present their collaborative project “Micro Macro Photo Litho” in New Castle University, on the 29th of June 2017 thanks to the support of the Institute for Creative Arts Practice. Through the exhibition, they explore the interdisciplinary exchange in technical processes of photo-lithography.
     “Micro Macro Photo Litho” aims to explore the unlikely relationship between two entirely different disciplines: fine art printmaking as a mean of social communication and semiconductor micro-fabrication applied to neuroscience. Photo-lithography and etching processes are routinely used in both areas. The objective of this collaboration is to produce a collection of macro- and micro-scale images to be exhibited, to share conceptual approaches and to exchange technical processes.

     The Macro-Prints are composed by medical electrodes, which were designed and fabricated at Newcastle University as part of a project aiming to study the human skeletal muscle. These prints are made using the methods and materials that are common in art printmaking. In contrast, the Micro-Prints focus in societal themes of Mexican popular culture produced by semiconductor fabrication techniques. The prints, which are the size of a fraction of a millimeter, will be placed on glass slides to view under a microscope using a HD digital camera. Erika Servin will lead the work of the “Macro-Prints”, while Enrique Escobedo-Cousin focuses on the “Micro-Prints”.

     Erika Servin (Mexico City,1972), its a printmaking expert for New Castle University. Doctor Enrique Escobedo-Cousin (Mexico City), researcher and engineer for the same institution. Together they combine art and engineering to reinvent the Mexican tradition of printmaking.
