1. Literary Discussion and Exchange with Pedro Serrano in Spanish (17 May) The Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom and the UNAM – UK (Centre for Mexican Studies) are pleased to invite you to an evening of literary discussion and exchange with Pedro Serrano in which the topics of contemporary poetry in Mexico, literary translation, and Serrano’s links with British poets will be addressed. (in Spanish).
2. Poetry and Translation Panel (16 May) In addition to the literary discussion, there will be a “Panel on Poetry and Translation” with Pedro Serrano, Richard Gwyn, Anna Crowe and Adriana Díaz Enciso, in which they will explore the connections between Latin American and British poetry and how they are expressed through translation. The panel will be on Tuesday, May 16, at 18:00hrs. at King’s College London Room K 1.56 (Strand Campus, London, WC2R 2LS). The panel will be presented in English.
3. Screening: El laberinto de Octavio Paz (18 May) This new documentary reviews the work and trajectory of the Mexican poet and essayist (1914-1998), with testimonies of 25 great experts. The documentary offers a broad vision of the production of an author who always affirmed that the true biography of a poet is not in the events of his life, but in his work. But he also gives special attention to fundamental episodes of his life: the years he lived in India, where he served as Ambassador of Mexico between 1962 and 1968 and wrote some of the major works; The visit to Spain in 1937 to attend the International Congress of Writers for the Defense of Culture, or the brilliant meeting with Marie José, first in Delhi and then in Paris. |
