A major new anthology of poetry from Latin America, The Other Tiger: Recent Poetry from Latin America, will be presented in the UK on a launch tour starting in London and with presentations also in Newcastle, Cardiff, and Edinburgh. The tour will include the participation of the editor, Welsh writer Richard Gwyn, renowned Mexican poets Carlos López Beltrán and Alicia García Bergua, and Jorge Fondebrider and Marina Serrano from Argentina.

The title of this book is from a poem by Jorge Luis Borges, translated into English by Alastair Reid. This anthology is composed with 156 poems and brings together poets from across Latin America, with some poems translated into English for the first time. Ana Franco, Alicia García Bergua, Claudia Hernandez de Valle-Arizpe, Carlos López Beltrán, Maria Rivera, Pedro Serrano and Julio Trujillo are some of the renowned Mexican authors included in the anthology. Carlos López Beltrán is Professor of History and Philosphy of Bioanthropological Sciences at UNAM. As a poet he has published four collections: Entre los intersticios (1980), Ciudad Erial (1982), Las cosas no naturales (1997) and Hembras desarboladas (2014). He is the editor and translator with Pedro Serrano of La generación del cordero; Antología de poesía actual en las Islas Británicas (2001) and also of 359 Delicados (con filtro); Antología de poesía actual en México (2013). He has also written several books of essays and academic works. Alicia García Bergua is a poet and an essayist and works as a texts editor in the science magazine for young people “Como ves?” and as coordinator in the creative writing portal-workshop on science communication Cienciorama of UNAM. She is author of some poetry books such as “Fatigarse entre fantasmas” (1991), “La anchura de la calle” (1996) “Una naranja en medio de la tarde” (2005), “Tramas (2007), among others. Richard Gwyn is the author of four collections of poetry, an anthology of contemporary poetry from Wales, two books of poetry in translation, and two novels, The Colour of a Dog Running Away (2005) and Deep Hanging Out (2007). His work has appeared in translation in over a dozen languages. His most recent book, a memoir, is The Vagabond’s Breakfast, winner of a Wales Book of the Year Award (2012). Gwyn is Professor of Creative Writing at Cardiff University and the author of Ricardo Blanco’s Blog. |
