The City Music Foundation launches "Xilitla", the debut album of the Mexican percussionist Eusebio Sánchez.

"Xilitla" is inspired on the Mexican area of Las Pozas, at the heart of the Huasteca Potosina, where the "Garden of Eden" designed by the English artist Edward James is.

“Xilitla’s” proposal combines musical worlds of Mexico and the United Kingdom, where Sanchez reunites new and existing works in collaboration with several guest artists.

The album includes some works commissioned by Cristophe Oliver Leith, Sanchez’ own arrangements on some traditional Mexican melodies as well as parts and arrangements of various authors, including some of Hilda Paredes’ marimba repertoire.

Eusebio Sánchez was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León. He began his musical studies at the School of Music and Dance (Mexico) when he was 9 years old.

Later, he received instruction from internationally renowned percussionists and marimba players as Norberto Nandayapa and Makoto Nakura. Besides, Sánchez has experienced participating with different musical ensembles such as “Marimba Regia”. He was the first foreign musician to receive the City Music Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme, in the framework of the Dual Year of Mexico and the UK, making a short residence in the UK for in 2015 and 2016.
