| Leonora Carrington (1917 - 2011) was an English artist and writer who lived much of her adult life in Mexico. Carrington was an important figure in the avant-garde scene of the 20th century. She had a great international presence among the Surrealists, because her work was characterized by her proximity to that cultural movement as well as the interest held in her later years to defend women’s liberation. |

Lucy Skaer (b. 1975) is a British artist, born in Cambridge, whose work is characterized by the relationship between abstraction and material nature of objects. Skaer’s work has shown particular commitment to historical images or objects representing symbols of British culture and landscape. Ahead of the commemoration of the 2017 centenary of Carrington’s birth, the exhibition "Leonora Carrington/Lucy Sakaer ", curated by Catriona McAcra repositions the artist’s work in relation to different contemporary responses, including "Leonora" (2006 ) by Lucy Skaer and performative proposals by Samantha Sweeting and Lynn Lu. In addition, the exhibition complements a forthcoming essays collection co-edited by the McAcra and Jonathan P.
