Budapest, Hungary, May 26th, 2020. - The Embassy of Mexico in Hungary, concurrent for the Republic of Bulgaria and for the Republic of Croatia, reports that the Government of Mexico and Carnival Corporation (CCL in the New Stock Exchange York | www.carnivalcorp.com), a cruise operating company, collaborate to facilitate the repatriation of 799 crew members stranded, due to the global pandemic, in various vessels docked in ports on the west coast of the United States, including 6 Hungarian nationals, 8 Croatian nationals and 4 Bulgarian nationals.

Carnival Corporation has concentrated the COVID-19 free crew on the Koningsdam cruise ship, which is located in the vicinity of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, from where charter flights are planned to specific destinations such as San Pedro Sula, Honduras ; Bridgetown, Barbados; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Belgrade, Serbia; and Lima, Peru. Likewise, the company will charter three shuttle flights for the transfer of European citizens from the Mexico City International Airport to various European capitals, from which they take the corresponding flights to their countries of origin. The first of these flights departed on May 21 to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Regarding nationals of countries in the Central European, Eastern European and Balkan regions, -about 300 crew members- the company has organized flights from Puerto Vallarta to Belgrade, Serbia, scheduled to leave between May 22 and 23 next.

The members of the crew of this company have been quarantined on board of various vessels, making urgent a joint and coordinated action to facilitate the safe repatriation of each crew member to their country of origin. This situation is an example of the challenges in various areas that the global pandemic has brought, making clear the need to strengthen cooperation strategies that provide practical solutions without conditions, involving different actors in society, in this case private companies and public institutions such as the Government of the State of Jalisco in Mexico, the municipality of Puerto Vallarta and diplomatic representatives accredited in Mexican territory.
