Are you a holder of a valid visa or resident card from Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or any Schengen country?
Kindly note the Mexican Government applies visa exemption if you are a permanent resident or have a valid and unexpired multiple entry visa in an ordinary passport of any of the aforementioned countries. Please note that a Mexican visa or any of these documents DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY to Mexico; this merely allows you to travel to Mexico and present yourself to a migration officer who will determine your entry.
If you do require a Visa to travel to Mexico, kindly read the following general information carefully and view the specific requirements for each type of visa:
- Visa application is a personal procedure. The visa cannot be issued neither by internet nor by post or through a third person.
- Visa processing duration is between 2 and 10 working days.
- Kindly apply at least six weeks before your intended departure date.
- If you are not a Ghanaian national, you must show proof of your immigration status in Ghana (valid visa, resident card or stamp of entry).

General Visa Process
Please review all the tabs to understand the general requirments that will be asked of you for your visa application. These tabs contain information that will be used in all applications regardless of the type of visa you are requesting.
Application form
A visa application form will be given to you to fill in ink on the day of your scheduled appointment. It must be signed by the applicant in front of the consular official. In the case of minors OR persons with intellectual disabilities, the application form must be signed in front of the consular representative by BOTH PARENTS or the persons that exercise legal guardianship.
Passport
You must provide your original valid passport as well as good quality photocopies of the personal data pages that contain the following information:
- Passport number, signature, validity period, or renewals.
- Original and photocopies of valid passports, visas, and entry stamps.
- Residence permits and stamp of entry to Ghana (For non-Ghanaian nationals)
Your passport must be valid at least six months from the intended date of entry into Mexico.
Photographs
A regular sized Ghanaian passport picture in color, no glasses, uncovered face and white background with a neutral facial expression.
Fees
The fee for a visa application is USD $54
The embassy will provide you with the appropiate deposit slip on the date of your appointment:
Payment is NOT REFUNDABLE regardless of the visa application result.
Payment the exact amount ONLY IN USD DOLLARS.
There is no online payment, attention with possible scams.
Minors
In addition to the mentioned requirements, in Visa applications for minors Both parents must attend the consular interview to authorize the trip of the minor. Please bring a valid ID (passport). A certified copy of the minor´s birth certificate, in English or Spanish, must be provided to prove the filiation.
Special cases might also include the following:
- If the minor travels with one parent only, it is necessary to present a notarial authorization document issued before a public notary and certified by the both the Judicial Service of Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration stating that the parent that will not travel authorizes the minor to travel to Mexico with the other parent.
- In the case of minors or adolescents whose parental authority only corresponds to one of the parents by court ruling, a certified copy of the official document that determines this must be presented.
- When minors come alone or with a third party of legal age, they must present a document issued before a public notary and certified by the both the Judicial Service of Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, stating the authorization of both parents or those who exercise parental authority or guardianship over them, so that a Mexican visa is processed and, if applicable, issued.
Mexican Migration Law imposes severe restrictions on children traveling alone or in the company of adults other than their parents. Therefore, those traveling with children must provide legal proof of relationship.
Other information
- Documents in any language different from English must be translated into Spanish. The original document must also be presented along with the translation.
- The Embassy of Mexico reserves the right to request further information.
- In all your supporting documents, your name must exactly appear as it is written in your passport.
- Colour photocopies will not be accepted as substitutes of original documents.
- Kindly note that, the Mexican migration law doesn’t contemplate the possibility of “sponsors” or “letters of sponsorship”. You must provide evidence that you can personally sustain yourself during your intended trip. An invitation letter or a letter of introduction to attend a conference does not waive the applicant from the requirements of his visa applicatoin.
Specific Visa Requirements
After reviewing the general information, please review the specific requirements for each type of visa. You must provide these requirements in addition to the requirements laid out in the General Visa Process Section.
Please note that the proper name for this Visa is Visitors without permission to engage in remunerated activities. You will require this visa for tourism, transit, business or an invitation to a conference/event.
- Last three months' bank statements ink signed and stamped by the bank
- Employment letter/H.R. letter written by a third person from your place of work addressed to the Embassy of Mexico, issued on letterhead paper and stating the applicant’s position, period of employment, monthly and annual salary, the company’s contact details, and the name and position of the person that signs. Include photocopy of ID of the person who signs the letter with visible signature. The letter must be signed in ink and brought in original. Scanned image or PDF versions will not be accepted. Letters signed by the applicant are not accepted. People who are self employed must also bring letters written by a third party.
- Salary pay slips for the last three months duly stamped and ink signed and with all the applicant’s information. Pay slips signed by the applicant are not accepted.
- For economic dependents (husband, wife and/or children under 25 years old), documents that prove the family relation.
Please note that the proper name for this Visa is Visitors without permission to engage in remunerated activities - Long term. You will require this visa is you are planning to be a frequent traveller to and from Mexico to other countries.
A) ECONOMIC SOLVENCY

E) TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT RESIDENT RELATIVE

G) COMPANY SUPERVISOR

Deed or policy from the corporation signed before a Commissioner of Oaths, or a document duly certified by the administrative body or a competent officer thereof, proving legal constitution of the business.

Letter from the company specifying the applicant’s post and the company’s commitment to cover travel expenses.
The temporary residence visa is used for seeking to establish yourself in Mexico.
A. ECONOMIC SOLVENCY
- Proof of investment or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to $32, 533 usd for the last three months, or
- Original and (1) photocopy of documents showing that the applicant has employment or a pension with an income with a net monthly income of, approximately $1,952 usd or its equivalent in your currency during the last six months
B. INVESTMENTS
- Original and 1 copy of the official document granted by a Notary Public, or competent official that proves that the applicant is an investor in Mexico.
- Original and 1 copy of official document that proves the applicant owns properties in Mexico.
- Original and 1 copy of official document that proves the applicant is an employer in Mexico, certified by the Mexican Social Security Institute
C. PUBLIC OR PRIVATE INSTITUTION (INVITATION)
- An original letter of commitment stating that the organization or public/private institution that invites the applicant to participate (non-profit activities only)
The letter must include ALL the following information:
- Applicant’s full name and nationality.
- Institution’s name or corporate name of the organization or company.
- Official registration number of the company / organization (where applicable).
- Main activity of the public or private organization / company.
- Full address and contact information of the institution / company / organization.
- Information about the exact activity that the applicant is going to perform in Mexico or precise purpose of the project the applicant would take part in. (Please note that the activities to be performed by the applicant while in Mexico, must be related to the inviting company/organization’s main activity)
- Exact duration of the applicant’s stay.
- Original statement of commitment of liability or responsibility for the applicant during his/her stay in Mexico and return to country of origin.
- Include a photocopy of a valid official ID with photograph and signature of the person who signs the letter.
The inviting organization or private institution must present original and 1 copy of bank statements from the past twelve months.
Attestation of the applicant's experience, capacity, skills or expertise to carry out the activity for which has been invited, original and a photocopy.
C. JOB OFFER
- Original and copy of the passport, the information must be the same than in the official authorization from the INM.
- The Application form will be given to you to fill at the Embassy on the day you submit your documents.
- One passport size photograph (size 1.5 x 1.3/4 inches OR 32.0 millimeters x 26 millimeters and at most 39.0 millimeters x 31.0 millimeters), in color, no glasses, uncovered face and white background with a neutral facial expression.
- Original and copy of the document proving legal residence (visa and / or resident card), applicable to foreigners who are not nationals of the country where the visa application is to be submitted.
- Copy of the official document with the authorization from the INM.
- Pay the required fee according to the type of visa.
- In case of authorization, the applicant must also cover the aditional fee of this type of visa.
D. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN MEXICAN WATERS
- Copy of the official document with the notification that the Foreign Affairs Ministry received the required authorizations. The document must include all the following information:
- Applicant’s full name and nationality.
- Institution’s name.
- Information about the exact activity that the applicant is going to perform in Mexico or precise purpose of the project the applicant would take part in.
- Exact duration of the applicant’s stay.
The temporary residence visa is used for various reasons. These are the requirementes for the visa if you are reuniting with a family member in Mexico
Relative of a foreigner holder of a temporary residence visa or temporary residence student:
- Spouse or common-law partner: marriage certificate or common law certificate or equivalent. Son/daughter, birth certificate. Parents (minor) birth certificate of the applicant.
- Original and copy of the temporary residence visa or temporary residence student visa and,
- Proof of economic solvency to cover the expenses of every relative:
- Original and (1) photocopy of Bank statements from the last twelve months
- Original and (1) photocopy of salary or pension slips from the last six months.
Marriage with foreigner holder of a permanent residence visa:
- Marriage certificate or common law certificate or equivalent.
- Original and copy of the permanent visa.
- Proof of economic solvency to cover the expenses of the applicant’s marriage:
- Original and (1) photocopy of Bank statements from the last twelve months
- Original and (1) photocopy of salary or pension slips from the last six months.
Marriage or common law with a Mexican national:
- Marriage certificate or common law certificate or equivalent.
- Original and copy of Proof of Mexican nationality.
Note: If you are requesting a visa that was processed in Mexico (NUT) then you do not need to provide proof of economic solvency. However, the interviewer can ask about your life in Ghana which may include your financials.
STUDIES
Original and copy of admission letter from an institution belonging to the National Educational System to take courses WITH ALL the following information:
- Full name of the interested party.
- Level, degree, and area of study that will be pursued.
- Name of the course to which the applicant has been accepted.
- Start and end dates of the course.
- School fees.
- Contact data for the educational institution.
Proof of economic solvency to cover the cost of enrolment, food, and accommodation during the applicant’s stay in national territory, which could be:
- Original and (1) photocopy of documents showing that the applicant has employment, pension or scholarship, with the monthly income clearly stated. These documents must be from the last three months prior to the visa application, or
- Original and (1) photocopy of bank statements from the last three months.
Legalizations
The Legalization is a process in which the consular officer certifies the signature and stamp of a public server that appears in official documents with the main objective that those documents will have effects in the country of the consular officer.
Countries that are not members of the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents should continue to legalize their documents. In the case of Ghana, all documents must be legalized to be accepted and valid before Mexican authorities.
The Embassy of Mexico only legalizes the following documents:
Public documents with the recognized signature and stamp of public servers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana such as the following certificates:
- Certificates of birth, marriage, divorce, and death.
- Academic transcripts and professional certificates.
- Copies and notarial certificates, powers of attorney.
- Records, certificates, and documents issued by the Government of Ghana.
- Judgments and judicial resolutions.
- Medical certificates certified by a notary public.
Documents that will not be legalized are the following:
Those without the recognized signature and stamp of public servers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana such as:
- Wallet-size birth certificates.
- Translations or photocopies of documents that have not been stamped and signed by a notary public.
- School documents that do not have the name and signature of the authority that issued them.
In order to legalize your document at the Embassy, the petitioner shall do the following:
- If the document is not issued by a Ghanaian Institution, first legalize it with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin.
- All documents regardless of the country of origin have to be certified with the Judicial Services of Ghana (Notary Public).
- Certify the document with the Legal and Consular Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana.
- Request an appointment for legalization via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the details of the submitted documents. Appointments will be given by email ONLY, and a print out of the confirmation email will be requested at the entrance. Failure to present the confirmation email or forged confirmation emails will lead to refusal of entry.
- Present the original and one photocopy of the document at the Embassy on the day of your appointment.
- Pay a fee of $54 U.S. dollars (not cedi equivalent). Legalization fee is per document paid in US dollars, the payment details will be given to you at the Embassy on the appointment day.
