MEXICO BESTOWS THE “ORDER OF THE AZTEC EAGLE” UPON
COENRAAD HENDRIK ADOLPH HOGEWONING

The Embassy of Mexico informs that yesterday, on behalf of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Ambassador Martha Barcena Coqui bestowed the “Order of the Aztec Eagle” to Former Ambassador of the Netherlands to Mexico (2012 -2016), Coenraad Hendrik Adolph Hogewoning, as an acknowledgement of his valuable work and contributions to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.

During the event at the Mexican Cultural Institute, Ambassador Barcena highlighted the crucial role Ambassador Hogewoning has played in consolidating ties between Mexico and the Netherlands. In 2018, both countries commemorated 190 years of diplomatic relations. “Ambassador Hogewoning was instrumental in bringing together the Dutch and Mexican business communities through reciprocal missions that focused on energy, infrastructure, and agro-logistics”, she mentioned. Likewise, he supported the inaugural Aeromexico’s flight from Mexico City to Amsterdam.

During his tenure, Ambassador Hogewoning, along with the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union, supported the negotiation for the modernization of the Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union. These important actions reinvigorated Mexican-Dutch relations.

The Order of the Aztec Eagle is the highest distinction that the Government of Mexico awards to foreign nationals, and is given out in recognition of exemplary service to the Mexican nation or to humanity.
