Work visit of Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma to San Antonio, Texas

From August 23 to 25, 2022, Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragán will visit San Antonio, Texas. In addition to meeting with members of the migrant community, business leaders and local authorities, he will participate as one of the keynote speakers at the North American Development Bank (NADBank) US – Mexico Border Environmental Forum XXVI.

At the Border Environmental Forum, Ambassador Moctezuma will talk about the actions implemented by the Government of Mexico to improve border infrastructure, as well as the cooperative efforts with the United States to modernize and expand ports of entry. These improvements aim to reduce transportation costs and speed up the crossing of goods and people under the highest environmental and technological standards. These efforts take into consideration the advantages offered by the USMCA to increase trade and also the competitiveness and prosperity of North America vis-à-vis other regions of the world.

The NADBank US – Mexico Border Environmental Forum will also feature the participation of the US Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, and the Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, among other experts and academics that will discuss trends, cross-border collaborative efforts and other actions to mitigate climate change.

During his visit to that city, Ambassador Moctezuma will meet with San Antonio mayor, Ron Nirenberg, to continue strengthening the political dialogue and discuss topics such as the protection of the Mexican community in that region. Additionally, Ambassador Moctezuma will meet with authorities of Port San Antonio, a space to promote innovation in key industries, such as aerospace, manufacturing, cybersecurity and education.

Ambassador Moctezuma will also participate in meetings with representatives of US and Mexican companies such as Valero and Topo Chico; as well as with the San Antonio-Mexico Friendship Council, and the Texas Research and Technology Foundation organizations, to continue promoting commercial ties with Mexico and business opportunities in the United States.

The Consul General of Mexico in San Antonio, Rubén Minutti Zanatta, will accompany Ambassador Moctezuma in various activities, including a meeting planned with the student community of the Alamo Colleges District, which has benefited from the IME Becas program.

With this visit, Ambassador Moctezuma reiterates his interest and commitment to deepen ties with the Mexican and American community in San Antonio and the surrounding region, expand cooperation opportunities, promote the development of the border region and the protection of the migrant community. All this with the purpose of building a more prosperous, competitive, and humanistic North America, based on instruments such as the USMCA, the High-Level Economic Dialogue, and the North American Leaders’ Summit.
