PRESS RELEASE

Ambassador Roberto Lazzeri Montaño Assumes Leadership of the Embassy of Mexico in the United States

Ambassador Roberto Lazzeri Montaño presented copies of his credentials on June 24 to Monica Crowley, Chief of Protocol of the U.S. Department of State, thereby assuming leadership of the Embassy of Mexico in the United States and beginning his official engagement with U.S. authorities.

Ambassador Lazzeri was appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and ratified by the Mexican Senate on June 10. He arrived in Washington, D.C., on June 23 and, following the presentation of copies of his credentials, is able to begin official contacts with U.S. authorities. He will soon present his credentials to President Donald J. Trump, at which point he will be formally accredited as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to the United States of America.

Mexico and the United States established diplomatic relations on December 12, 1822. Since then, both countries have built one of the world’s strongest bilateral relationships, grounded in more than 3,100 kilometers of shared border, deep economic integration, and more than 40 million people of Mexican origin in the United States, who constitute the strongest human bond between both nations.

Mexico’s foreign policy will continue prioritizing a strong relationship with the United States, based on the principles of respect for sovereignty, mutual trust, shared and differentiated responsibility, and cooperation without subordination. As Ambassador Lazzeri has noted, “The depth of our relationship, its economic scale, and its human dimension require constant cooperation.”

The Embassy of Mexico will continue advancing a long-term bilateral agenda focused on the protection of Mexican communities in the United States, strengthening cooperation on security and migration, and expanding trade and investment to consolidate North America as a more competitive region that generates benefits for both communities.

In a changing international environment, Mexico reaffirms its commitment to a long-term strategic relationship with the United States, convinced that two sovereign, strong, and respectful nations are more prosperous and secure when they cooperate with trust, certainty, and a shared vision of the future.

Prior to his appointment as ambassador of Mexico to the United States, Roberto Lazzeri Montaño served as chief executive officer of Nacional Financiera and Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior, he also served at Mexico’s Ministry of finance and Public Credit, following a distinguished career in economic, financial, and international affairs.
