Roberto Lazzeri Montaño Began his career in 2005 at the Secretaría de Finanzas de la Ciudad de México, where he was responsible for managing the local public debt portfolio. He subsequently served as Risk Manager at Hipotecaria Su Casita, where he managed a MXN 20 billion portfolio of financial derivatives. He later joined Banco Nacional de Obras y Servicios Públicos (Banobras) as Financing Structuring Manager, specializing in the structuring and financing of subnational debt. Before returning to public service, he joined Hipotecaria Vértice as Risk and Strategic Planning Manager, where he led the company’s restructuring process. Between 2012 and 2020, he worked as a financial advisor and, in 2015, founded Lazzeri Fernández, S.C., through which he advised several state governments on capital markets, structured debt, and project finance. In November 2020, he joined the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público as Director General of Public Debt Operations, where he was responsible for public debt operations and structured financing projects. In October 2021, he was appointed Director General of Debt Issuance, leading sovereign debt issuances in both the domestic and international capital markets. In July 2023, he became Head of the Office for Coordination of the Secretary of Finance, overseeing the strategic operations of the Secretary’s Office and coordinating the work of all areas within the Ministry. In August 2025, he was appointed Director General of Nacional Financiera (Nafin) and Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior (Bancomext), further consolidating an extensive career in the Federal Public Administration and the financial sector. On June 10, 2026, he was confirmed by the Senate of the Republic as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico to the United States of America. Subsequently, on June 24, he presented the copies of his letters of credence to the United States Department of State, thereby officially assuming responsibility for the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C., and leading Mexico’s diplomatic representation in the conduct of its foreign policy and bilateral relationship with the United States. Mr. Roberto Lazzeri Montaño holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) and has completed law studies at the Universidad del Valle de México. Beyond his career in public finance and development banking, Roberto Lazzeri Montaño has built a sustained presence in the binational creative industries spanning music, publishing, and the visual arts. He holds a postgraduate degree in Music Business from UCLA Extension and has worked across music supervision, record labels, and music publishing. As a gallery and creative-venture partner, he has contributed to the production and commercialization of contemporary Mexican and cross-border creative work. His engagement with the visual arts extends to large-scale mural production and public art as instruments of cultural exchange. This body of work reflects a long-standing conviction that culture and the creative economy are central to Mexico’s international presence and to the strength of the bilateral relationship. |
