Signing of the Modernized Mexico-EU Global Agreement
|
|
|
On May 22, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo welcomed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa to the National Palace for an official ceremony marking the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union.
The Modernized Global Agreement is considered one of the key instruments for strengthening political, trade, and cooperation relations between the two regions. The agreement was signed by President Sheinbaum Pardo on behalf of Mexico and by Ursula von der Leyen on behalf of the European Union.
As part of the proceedings of the VIII Mexico-European Union Summit, an Interim Trade Agreement was also signed by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, and the European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič.
In addition, a Letter of Intent was signed to establish a political and strategic dialogue on consultation and coordination on global issues between Mexico and the European Union. The letter was signed by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Velasco, and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
Business leaders from both sides participated the previous day in a Business Summit organized by the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE).

Presentation on the Modernized Mexico-EU Global Agreement

On May 11, Ambassador Pensado gave a presentation on the Modernized Global Agreement (MGA) at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterating the opportunities that the signing of this instrument bring to the relationship between Mexico and Europe, and consequently, with Denmark.
The presentation, titled "Modernized Mexico-EU Global Agreement: New Opportunities to Strengthen Relations between Mexico and Denmark," alluded to the changes taking place in the new global geopolitics, the reconfiguration of supply chains, and the technological and energy transition. In this context, it was reiterated that Mexico and Denmark have a unique opportunity to strengthen their relations and, above all, to strategically reposition themselves in the global economy.

Mexico Present at the Copenhagen Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change 2026

|
The Director General of Policies for Climate Action, Andrea Hurtado Epstein, visited Copenhagen to participate in the Copenhagen Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change 2026, which took place on May 20 and 21.
This meeting, organized by the Government of Denmark through the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, aims to create a space for dialogue focused on identifying concrete actions to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, with a view to COP31 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Meeting with the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Juelsminde
|
|
|
Ambassador Pensado, accompanied by Third Secretary Andrés Morett, traveled on May 27 to Juelsminde, on the Jutland peninsula, to hold a meeting with the Honorary Consul of Mexico in the region, Anders Brix.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues concerning consular services for the Mexican community residing in Denmark, topics related to the bilateral relationship, as well as preparations to commemorate the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Denmark.

On May 26, Ambassador Pensado met with the newly appointed Danish Ambassador to Mexico, Vanessa Vega Sáenz. Their discussions focused on bilateral relations, including the Joint Strategic Plan and cooperation in priority areas.

The embassy's film club, in collaboration with the Danish Football Association (DBU), screened the documentary “So Close to the Clouds” on May 29th in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup in Mexico. The event featured also the participation of Ann Stengård, a member of the Danish national team at the World Championships, who gave a speech on this occasion.
The film, shown at DBU facilities, tells the story of the women's national team at the 1971 World Cup in Mexico.

Michoacán's gastronomy is one of the most representative of Mexico and was recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It stands out for its Purépecha recipes, the use of corn, chili peppers, beans, and traditional techniques passed down through generations.
Typical Michoacán Dishes
Corundas
Triangular tamales wrapped in corn husks or reeds, generally served with cream, cheese, and red salsa.
Tarascan Soup
Traditional soup prepared with beans, tomatoes, and pasilla chili peppers, served with fried tortillas, cheese, and cream. Originating in Morelia.
Carnitas de Quiroga
Pork cooked slowly in copper pots. It is one of the state's most famous dishes.
Uchepos
Soft tamales made with tender corn. They can be served sweet or savory with cream and salsa.
Charales and Whitefish

Morelia-style enchiladas
Enchiladas bathed in red sauce of several dry chillies and served with potatoes, carrots, and chicken. Very popular in Morelia.
Huitlacoche quesadillas
Huitlacoche is a fungus that grows among the kernels of corn. In Mexico, huitlacoche is considered a delicacy, and one of the most popular dishes that uses this ingredient is the quesadilla.
In addition to these dishes, churipo, atápakuas, Cotija cheese, and traditional sweets like chongos zamoranos are also very well known.
