Press Release No. 158.- Call for the 2017 Immigrant Entrepreneur Award

Every year the City of Ottawa celebrates and recognizes the contribution to business by immigrants who have launched a successful enterprise. On July 10, the call to nominate candidates for the Immigrant Entrepreneur Award was opened and nominations may be submitted until September 29. Thanks to the participation of the Mexican community in Ottawa in 2017, the Mexican Embassy in Canada hosted the announcement of this call. All interested parties are invited to learn about the award details on the Ottawa.ca.

The award is given to individuals who are making a substantial contribution to the Ottawa economy, with a focus on the following topics:

  • Local hiring or purchases
  • The export of products or services from Ottawa
  • Attracting investment or tourism
  • Launch of Innovative Business in Ottawa
  • Mentoring to other entrepreneurs

Community participation

In 2016, Embassies received an invitation to nominate leading members of the immigrant community to participate. The person nominated by the Mexican Embassy in Canada was one of the winners of the award*.

The 2017 award winners will be announced as part of the TiECon (The Indus Entrepreneurs) conference in its Ottawa chapter on November 3, 2017. TiECon Ottawa has been promoting entrepreneurship in Ottawa for more than 13 years.
