Temporary Importation of Press and Film Equipment – 2026 World Cup
In the context of the 2026 World Cup to be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, media outlets from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and Suriname covering this event are hereby informed of the procedure for the temporary importation of press and film equipment into Mexico .
In accordance with Mexican legislation, individuals residing abroad who engage in journalistic activities for print, radio, or television, as well as those involved in filmmaking, may temporarily import the equipment required for the performance of their duties free of taxes, provided that they submit to the customs authority a detailed list of such equipment, accompanied by a certificate issued by a Mexican Consular Office indicating the identification details of the media outlet or company they represent.
This procedure allows for the temporary import of equipment under the following modalities:
1. Individuals holding an accreditation letter from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)
Media outlets must send an email to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), indicating the names of the individuals attending the event. The email must include readable PDF copies of the following documents:
- A signed and scanned accreditation request provided by FIFA to the media outlet.
- Confirmation of accreditation issued by FIFA to the media outlet, listing the full names and email addresses of the individuals covering the event.
- A valid passport for each individual listed.
Based on this information, the Embassy of Mexico will issue an official certificate of accreditation for media representatives, which will be forwarded to the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), with a copy to the requesting media outlet.
Subsequently, ANAM will notify the relevant customs authority for their information.
2. Individuals who do not hold an accreditation letter from FIFA
To request a certificate accrediting them as representatives of a media outlet for World Cup coverage, interested individuals must submit the following documentation via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Following this review, applicants must appear in person at the Consular Section with the original documents in order to receive the corresponding certification:
- A letter issued by the media outlet or company represented, indicating:
a. Full name and nationality of the applicant;
b. Name or legal designation of the organization;
c. Full address and contact details of the organization;
d. Description of the activities to be carried out by the applicant (which must be consistent with the organization's objectives);
and. Estimated dates of stay in Mexico. - A copy of the identification of the person issuing the letter.
- A signed accreditation request by the applicant, including:
a. Full name of the applicant;
b. Name of the media outlet represented;
c. Full address and contact details of the media outlet;
d. Description of the applicant's position and duties;
and. Reference to the letter issued by the media outlet or company;
F. Statement of intent to temporarily import, free of taxes, the equipment required to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup;
g. Dates of stay in Mexico;
h. City and airport of entry into Mexico. - Valid passport of the applicant.
For both modalities, individuals must submit directly to the relevant Mexican customs authority a detailed list of their equipment, specifying quantities and descriptions.
Additionally, media representatives from ATA Carnet member countries may opt to temporarily import their equipment using an ATA Carnet, without the need for a customs broker or a certificate issued by the Consular Office.
