(TOURISM, BUSINESS OR TRANSIT VISA AND DIPLOMATIC OR OFFICIAL VISA)


This type of visa is appropriate if:

  • You are traveling to Mexico for vacation, transit, business, technical activities, artistic activities, scientific activities, sport activities, journalism or religion.
  • You will be in Mexico for up to 180 days.
  • You don´t have a work permit or contract with a Mexican company or employer.

REQUIREMENTS:

Travellers visiting Mexico may apply for their visas at any Mexican Embassy/Consulate in the World (e.g.: if you are flying to Mexico via Paris, you could apply for your visa at the Embassy of Mexico in Paris). Should you prefer to apply for your Mexican visa at this Embassy, we would like to suggest emailing digital copies of your complete application form and supporting documents (please see requirements below) for a pre-assessment before you come to your consular interview.

Visa requirements for ordinary passport holders differ from those for diplomatic/official passport holders. For ease of reference, please see the table below.

MEXICAN VISA REQUIREMENTS

Visa for Visitors without Authorization for Lucrative Activities

(for tourism/business/conferences/medical reasons)

  • Apply at this Consular Section in person
  • Fill out the application form with one passport-size color photograph (size 32mm x 26mm), no eyeglasses, on white background, affixed to the application form. Kindly ensure the application form is signed by the applicant.
  • Original valid passport and one color photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiry date/extensions
  • Valid proof of legal residence/entry in South Africa (if applicable) and one photocopy
  • If applicable, payment of consular fee, cash only. Free of charge for South African passport holders.
  • Proof of Financial Solvency (“A” or “B” below):
  • Fill out the application form with one passport-size color photograph (size 32mm x 26mm), no eyeglasses, on white background, affixed to the application form. Kindly ensure the application form is signed by the applicant.
  • Original valid passport and one color photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiry date/extensions
  • Original note verbale requesting the visa, specifying purpose, place, dates and duration of the trip or event to attend in Mexico.
  • If available, letter of invitation
  • Applicants of this kind of visas do not need to apply in person at this Consular Section. All required documents can be couriered to our premises (see address at the bottom of this message).
  • Visas are free of charge.
  • Visas are normally issued within 2-3 days and up to a maximum of 10 working days.

South African diplomatic passport holders DO NOT require a visa to travel to Mexico.

- Original employment letter, on company’s letterhead, signed in ink, stating applicant’s full name, nationality and passport number, period of employment, position and salary.











- Original invitation/sponsoring letter, on company’s letterhead, including the following:

  • Applicant´s full name and nationality.
  • Corporate name of the organization or company.
  • Registration number of the company/organization, Main purpose of the public or private organization/company.
  • Full address and contact information of the company/organization.
  • Information about the exact activity that the applicant is going to perform in Mexico or precise purpose of the project he/she would take part.
  • Estimated duration or approximate date of completion of the activity to perform.
  • Stating commitment of liability or responsibility for handling foreign person during his/her stay in Mexico and his/her return to his/her country of origin or residence.

AND

- Photocopy of ID of the person who signs the letter with visible signature. The letter must be signed in ink. Scanned, image or PDF versions will not be accepted.

AND

- The organization or private institution inviting/sponsoring must provide original investments/bank accounts statements for the last 12 (twelve) months stamped by the bank.

  
Mexican public institutions and private institutions within the National Education System, however, need not prove financial solvency.

IMPORTANT:

  • “Original” refers to a document signed/stamped in ink, and not to an electronic/digitalized version (e.g.: original invitation letter and bank statements, etc. must have been posted/couriered to you)
  • Please note that personal invitations (e.g.: a friend inviting you to Mexico) are not accepted.
Because of biometrics required to process a visa, it is imperative for applicants to be physically present at our offices. The visa will be issued upon compliance with the requirements. Once the application has been submitted and the biometrics taken, the visa will be issued within 10 working days; however, this figure is indicative, as visas are normally issued much earlier (usually, within the same week of application). Appointments are not mandatory, but early application is highly recommended. If not present for collection, a courier company can collect your passport on your behalf.

Visa applications will be received only Monday to Friday, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

Visa collection: Monday to Friday, from 09:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M.

No appointment is necessary, but early application is highly encouraged.
