The Embassy of Mexico in London, is looking for an experienced, highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking person with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to fill a full-time Butler position.

Job Description Tasks and Duties:

The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the needs of the Embassy, but will include the following:

  • Responsible for the operation and execution of official events.
  • Welcoming visitors to the Embassy/Residence, providing a high quality, front of house, and internal service for all meals and events;
  • Preparation, set up and post-event service: cleaning silver, polishing glassware; laying dining tables; clearing away after meal service; washing-up and appropriate storage/shelving of all the items used; making arrangements for linen to be sent for cleaning; general porterage, including deliveries; layout of tables, chairs, staging etc.;
  • Greeting guests and showing them to the event space, offering refreshments, and taking care of them throughout their stay in the Embassy;
  • Responsible for a team of three individuals
  • Securing and training of casual staff to assist with covering events;
  • Cleaning and manual duties: responsible for keeping the pantry, cellar, storerooms and overall working environment clean and tidy, keep the fridges/storeroom stocked;
  • Checking and storing deliveries.
  • Other duties to be determined as or when required.

This is not an exhaustive list but covers the key set of tasks and responsibilities. The jobholder may be asked to carry out other ad-hoc duties as directed. The jobholder will be expected to do all tasks within their level of skill and ability.

Conditions of Employment:

  1. The successful candidate will be hired on a fixed-term contract, with a three month probationary period, and will be based at Embassy London;
  2. Typically, Monday to Friday, 40.00 hours per week. However, this role will involve varied hours to allow for the Embassy event schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, and very occasional weekend attendance. Hours will be adjusted accordingly to meet the 40.00-hour attendance requirement;
  • The successful candidate must have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
  1. Availability to start employment immediately

Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in front-of-house activities including table service, mixing and serving drinks.
  • Experience of working in a similar environment: government hospitality, domestic diplomatic residence, luxury hotel or top restaurant.
  • Sound knowledge of all aspects of Butler service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, responsive to guests’ needs and able to treat others with respect and courtesy, high standard of personal presentation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in support of events hosted at the Embassy/Residence, which will require regular evening work and some early mornings. There may also be some occasional weekend work.
  • Ability to act with discretion at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively within the Embassy Team
  • Ability to direct a service team.
  • Highly organised with excellent time management.
  • Capacity to work well at pace and under pressure.
  • Good command of spoken English.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience in a similar working environment or government hospitality.
  • Other Front-of-House / Catering or equivalent qualification.
  • Good knowledge of wines, Sommelier experience or related qualification an advantage.
