AMBASSADOR OF MEXICO, NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO IMO

 

     London, UK, 19th May 2017. – Ambassador of Mexico to the United Kingdom Julian Ventura assumed his duties today as Mexico’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), after presenting his Letters of Credence to Secretary-General Kitack Lim.

     In his conversation with the Secretary-General, which took place at the IMO's iconic headquarters in London, Ambassador Ventura reaffirmed Mexico's continued commitment both to the work of the Organization as the United Nations' specialized maritime agency, as well as to strengthened international maritime cooperation.

     Ambassador Ventura formally submitted Mexico´s candidacy for re-election as a Category "C" member of the Council of the Organization (2018-2019 biennium), in the elections to be held during IMO’s 30th General Assembly (27th November to 6th December, 2017).

     In this regard, the Mexican diplomat - who also serves as Ambassador to the United Kingdom and as Representative to the various international bodies headquartered in London – highlighted that over the course of its almost 60 years of IMO membership, Mexico has made important contributions to the work of the Council, whose 40 members are divided into three categories, according to their global maritime presence.
