SECRETARY LUIS VIDEGARAY CASO MET MEXICAN AMBASSADORS AND CONSULS IN EUROPE

·         Mexico and the European Union agreed to accelerate negotiations for the modernisation of its legal framework, which will be of great use in strengthening political, economic and cooperation relations with the EU.

FRANKFURT, Germany, 20th February 2017.- In order to advance the objective of diversifying Mexico's political, commercial, investment, tourism and cooperation ties, and in the occasion of his participation in the Meeting of G20 Foreign Ministers, Mexican Secretary Luis Videgaray led a working meeting in Frankfurt with Mexican Ambassadors and Consuls in Europe.

Given the international situation, Secretary Videgaray called on the representatives of the Mexican diplomatic network in Europe to renew their efforts to deepen ties at all levels with the countries of the region.

In reassuring Mexico's commitment to free trade and given the network of trade agreements Mexico has, Secretary Videgaray instructed them to intensify the business missions during 2017 as well as to work towards the growth of trade and the flow of investment between Mexico and Europe.

Likewise, the Mexican Foreign Secretary also recalled that Mexico and the European Union agreed to accelerate negotiations for the modernisation of its legal framework, which will be of great use in strengthening political, economic and cooperation relations with the EU.

The Heads of the Missions of Mexico in Europe informed the Secretary of the activities they are carrying out according with their working programmes and the instructions given by the Secretary at the Meeting of Mexican Ambassadors and Consuls in January, with the objective of increasing Mexico's presence in the region.

The meeting was attended by the Mexican Heads of Mission from: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Strasbourg, Finland, France, Frankfurt, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Milan, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine.
