MEXICAN CONSULATE ORGANISES LABOUR LEGISLATION SEMINAR

  • Attended by Consulate representatives from 12 Latinamerican countries in the UK.
  • It will be useful for consular assistance and protection.

LONDON, United Kingdom, 27th November 2014.- First Training Seminar on Labour Legislation design for Latin American consulates accredited in this country took place in the UK, in order to provide useful information and support elements for the performance of their duties in cases of assistance in labour matters.

The seminar was organized by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico in the UK as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to train their staff and to have the necessary tools to support their nationals abroad when facing a problem.

Because most Latin American countries have in common challenges in consular assistance and protection, such as defence of labour rights of its citizens abroad, the seminar was extended to the participation of all consular representations of that Latin American region accredited in the UK.

In the event, held on 26th November with the participation of the Ambassador of Mexico, Diego Gomez-Pickering, specialists in the subject-matter reviewed the basic principles of labour law in the United Kingdom, the basic rights of foreign workers in this country, regardless of their immigration status, and the main mechanisms for responding to requests of labour problems.

The seminar was attended by consular representatives of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay and Peru.
