DOCUNEXION IN SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST
LONDON, United Kingdom., 18 June 2015.- Within the activities of the Dual Year Mexico-UK 2015 and during the Sheffield Doc/Fest, the first session of the programme of learning and development of projects Docunexion took place.
The session took place from June 5th till the 7th and was direct result of an initiative between the British Council and the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE), in collaboration with the festivals Ambulante, DocsDF and Sheffield Doc/Fest. During the three days, 6 documentary projects in development –three from Mexico and three from UK-, gathered with documentary film creation and production experts, to assess their outreach, argumentative proposals and themes and with this, Docunexion fulfilled its essential objective: joining the growth of each cinematographic project through a collective exchange of ideas.
Kate Townsend, Jerry Rothwell and André Singer from UK, as well as Martha Sosa, Daniela Alatorre and Everardo González from Mexico, were selected as mentors to participate in this new and original initiative, and to contribute to the formation, co-production and the realization of new documentary projects, from young filmmakers from both countries.
The bi-national programme will have its second phase in the month of October, during the 10th edition of DocsDF Festival, where participants and mentors will come together in Mexico City to assess results and advances of each project.
The development of creative industries, particularly in the audiovisual creations and production scope, is one of the axes of the activities in the Dual Year MX-UK, therefore, Docunexion is one of the best examples of the collaboration that both countries could for the future.
