TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA

 

 Applicable to foreign nationals who intend to enter Mexico with a temporary resident status in order to remain for longer than 180 days and less than 4 years. The visa could be renewed in Mexico.

 

REQUIREMENTS

The documents listed below must scanned and send in one single email to consularesnor@sre.gob.mx 

 

Upon reception and verification of the documentation, the Embassy will give you an appointment for an interview in less than 10 working days. If the visa is approved, the visa will be stamped in your passport the same day of the interview:

 

                                          I.            Filled application form (available here)  

                                        II.            Valid Passport;

                                     III.            Proof of legal residence in Norway (for those who are not Norwegian citizens);

                                     IV.            Official documents evidencing ANY of the following cases:

                                                          a.            Financial solvency:

   -Pay slips of the last 6 months proving a monthly income or pension of minimum 17, 250 NOK (after TAX), or

   -Monthly bank statements of the last 12 months proving that you have investments or a bank account balance with a monthly average of minimum 287,000 NOK.

                                                         b.               Proof that you will conduct scientific research in Mexican territorial waters.

                                                         c.               Letter of invitation from an organization or a public or private institution to participate in a non-remunerated activity.

                                                         d.               Under an international legal instrument for the mobility of persons.

                                                         e.              Family link (parents, under 18 years children, spouses, domestic partners) to a Mexican or a foreign person who holds a temporary, student, or permanent resident visa.

                                                          f.              Notarial deed stating ownership of real estate in the National territory of Mexico with a value of minimum 2, 295, 000 NOK

                                                        g.               Investments

-Legal proof of participation of capital in a Mexican company with at least 1,150,000 NOK or

-Document proving the ownership of personal property by a foreign corporation, with a value exceeding 57,400 NOK for economic or business purposes, or

-Proof of economic activities in Mexico

 

Once you have been granted an appointment you will have to come to the Mexican Embassy and present:

 

a)     Application form and all documents previously sent by email in original 

 

b)    1 passport size photograph (recent, color photo measuring 3.0 x 3.5 cm, front view, with white background, without glasses and/or piercing). Homemade photos will NOT be accepted;

 

c)     Pay the Visa fee at the Embassy. The Embassy only accepts Norwegian debit cards. The fee is 40 USD equivalent to NOK according to the exchange rate. Some other immigration fees may apply depending on the case. 

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

ü  In all cases, the visa stamped on the passport must be exchanged for a residence card upon arrival to Mexico within the first 30 calendar days after. The residence card is issued by the Mexican Immigration Institute (INM) and is proof of legal stay and allows the person to remain in the country. To apply for an appointment you must contact the INM   www.inm.gob.mx  

 

ü  Note- If you will have a job in Mexico and receive your wages in Mexico, your employer must apply on your behalf at the National Immigration Institute (www.inm.gob.mx)before applying for a visa at the Embassy. 

 

ü  Holding a visa does not guarantee entry to Mexico. Having a visa allows you to travel to a port of entry and request permission to enter Mexico. The Immigration Institute of Mexico is responsible for admission of travellers.

 

 

 

 

TOURIST VISA

 

 

Norwegian citizens DO NOT need a Tourist Visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or any unpaid activity in Mexico as long as the visit does not exceed 180 days. 

 

If you are not traveling with Norwegian passport you can check if you are required to get a visa to Mexico before traveling.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Please note that regardless of his nationality, any foreigner holding any of the following documents will not require a Mexican visa:

 

ü  Document proving permanent residence in Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any Schengen Country, and the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia and Peru). The residence card should state explicitly "permanent residence".

 

ü  Valid Visa to Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or any of Schengen Country. (The Norwegian resident card does not count as valid visa).

 

ü  Card APEC Business Traveller (ABTC) adopted by Mexico.

 

 

TOURIST VISA REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESS

 

 

This visa allows you to visit Mexico for activities that do not involve receiving any kind of remuneration as tourism, transit through Mexico, businesses (such as attending meetings, supervisory visits, training or consultancies in Mexico), activities related to the exercise of ministers worship, technical jobs in companies (without pay in Mexico), philanthropic activities, sporting goods transport, medical treatments, attending fairs and / or conferences as well as studies involving no more than 180 days temporality.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

Send a copy of all your documents to consularesnor@sre.gob.mx or by post (Frøyas gate 9, 0244, Oslo, Norway).

 

Upon reception and verification of your documents, the Embassy will give you and appointment for an interview in person at the Embassy.

                                III.         1 Photo: recent, in color, 3.0 x 3.5 cm, front view, with white background, without glasses and/or piercing (it is not necessary to send a copy in the email just bring it to the interview).

 

                               IV.          Legal status: Documents proving your legal stay in Norway.

 

                                 V.          Financial Solvency: Official documents proving your financial solvency. Any of the following:

ü Monthly payment receipts (employment or pension) that show that you have had an income of at least  5,800 NOK for the last 3 months AND letter of employer or contract proving at least one year of employment.

Or,

ü Bank statements of the last 3 months with a monthly average balance of at least 17,250 NOK for each month.

 

                             VI.            Invitation letter: just for cases when you have been invited by an organization, public or private institution to participate in an event in Mexico.

 

                           VII.            Consular fee: Payment will be done the day of the interview at the Embassy. We only accept Norwegian debit cards

INFORMATION FOR NORWEGIANS

 

 

Norwegian citizens DO NOT need a Tourist Visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or any unpaid activity in Mexico as long as the visit does not exceed 180 days. 

 

At the entry point in Mexico, Norwegians will have to present:

ü  Norwegian valid passport;

ü  Multiple immigration form (FMM) and customs form, which will be handed on the airplane/airport/entry port;

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

ü  The immigration officials may ask for extra documents proving the duration and purpose of your trip, for example:
       a.    Return airplane tickets and hotel bookings,
       b.    Travel itinerary in Mexico or purpose of the trip.

 

 

 

 

ELECTRONIC AUTHORIZATION SYSTEM (SAE) FOR RUSSIANS, UKRAINIANS AND TURKISH NATIONALS.

 

 

The Electronic Authorization System (SAE) allows Russians, Ukrainians and Turkish to obtain an electronic authorization to travel to Mexico without a consular visa.

 

To use the SAE and to obtain an electronic authorization is necessary to meet this conditions:

ü  To be Russian, Ukrainian or Turkish.

ü  To hold a valid passport.

ü  Arrive to Mexico by plane.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

ü  In order to travel to Mexico with an electronic authorisation, please verify that the airline with you may travel is part of SAE scheme.

 

ü  The authorisation will be valid for 30 days and a single entry. 

 

ü  If for any reason the airline is not able to verify your electronic authorisation during check-in, your boarding might not be allowed.

 

ü  Regardless of the nationality, any foreigner holding any of the following documents will not require a Mexican visa or SAE:

a)              Document proving permanent residence in Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any Schengen Country, and the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia and Peru).
