Permanent Resident Visa

What is this visa?
This is a visa for foreign nationals who wish to enter Mexico as permanent residents.

Validity and permitted entries:

Validity: up to 180 days.
Entries: one (1) entry.

AFTER ENTERING MEXICO WITH THIS TYPE OF VISA, YOU MUST VISIT THE NEAREST OFFICE OF THE “NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MIGRATION” (INM) TO APPLY FOR A RESIDENT CREDENTIAL.

Requirements:

Please note that all documents are subject to verification. The process is done in person, so it is not possible to submit your documents via courier, mail, or through a third party.

1. Payment of the visa fee:

Visa applications at the Embassy of Mexico have a non-refundable charge in Nairas, equivalent to $54.00 USD, which must be deposited directly into the Embassy’s bank account.

2. Application form:

Submit the printed visa application form in person, duly completed and signed, as biometric information (photograph and fingerprints) is required.

3. Valid passport:

Original and a copy of your passport or travel and identity document valid under international law, with at least 6 months of validity before its expiration date.

4. Recent photograph:

One color photograph, white background, without glasses, and with a visible face. Passport size: between 32x26mm and 39x31mm.

5. Document proving legal stay:

If you wish to apply at this Embassy, you must provide proof of legal residence in Nigeria or any other country within our jurisdiction, which includes: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Niger, and Togo.

You must present documents proving one of the following cases:

A) Retirees or Pensioners

1. Bank or investment statements:

Original and copy of statements or proof of investments with an average monthly balance equivalent to $271,867.38 USD over the last 12 months.

2. Proof of pension:

Original and copy of documents proving a pension with tax-free monthly income greater than $6,796.68 USD over the last 6 months.

B) Family Unit

The relative proving the relationship must accompany the applicant at the time of application submission.

1. Relationship with a Mexican citizen:

The requirements vary depending on the applicant's relationship with the Mexican citizen:
1. If the applicant has a Mexican child:
  - Mexican birth certificate of the child (original and copy).
2. Or if the applicant has a Mexican parent: (Applies to children or adolescents who are not entitled to Mexican nationality, are unmarried, and are under legal representation.)
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
3. Or if the applicant is the child of the spouse, domestic partner, or equivalent of a Mexican citizen: (Applies to children or adolescents under the same conditions mentioned above.)
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
  - Marriage certificate or document proving cohabitation or equivalent (original and copy).
4. Or if the applicant is the sibling of a Mexican citizen:
  - Birth certificates of the applicant and the Mexican sibling (original and copy).

Proof of Mexican nationality:
- Supporting document in accordance with Article 3 of the Nationality Law (original and copy).

2. Relationship with a foreigner holding a permanent resident visa:

The requirements depend on the applicant's relationship with the foreigner holding a permanent resident visa:
1. If the applicant has a foreign child holding a permanent resident visa:
  - Birth certificate of the child (original and copy).
2. Or if the applicant has a foreign parent holding a permanent resident visa: (Applies to children or adolescents under the same conditions mentioned above.)
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
3. Or if the applicant is the child of the spouse, domestic partner, or equivalent of a foreigner holding a permanent resident visa:
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
  - Marriage certificate or equivalent document (original and copy).
4. Or if the applicant is the sibling of a foreigner holding a permanent resident visa: (Applies to children or adolescents under the same conditions mentioned above.)
  - Birth certificates of the applicant and the sibling (original and copy).
Additional Required Documentation
1. Permanent resident visa:
  - Valid and current (original and copy).
2. Proof of financial solvency:
  - Investments or bank accounts: Original and copy of statements showing an average monthly balance equivalent to $1,359.34 USD over the last 12 months.
  - Monthly income: Original and copy of documents proving a monthly income free of liens exceeding the equivalent of $1,359.34 USD over the last 6 months.

3. Relationship with a foreigner with permanent resident status:

The requirements vary depending on the applicant's relationship with the foreigner with permanent resident status:
1. If the applicant has a foreign child with permanent resident status:
  - Birth certificate of the child (original and copy).
2. Or if the applicant has a foreign parent with permanent resident status: (Applies to children or adolescents under the same conditions mentioned above.)
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
3. Or if the applicant is the child of the spouse, domestic partner, or equivalent of a foreigner with permanent resident status:
  - Birth certificate of the applicant (original and copy).
  - Marriage certificate or document proving cohabitation or equivalent (original and copy).
4. Or if the applicant is the sibling of a foreigner with permanent resident status: (Applies to children or adolescents under the same conditions mentioned above.)

Minors

Minors under 18 years must present:

Birth Certificate:
- Minors must present their birth certificate as part of the requirements.
Accompaniment:
- Minors must be accompanied by both parents or their legal guardians to the visa appointment.
- If minors are not traveling with both parents or guardians, they must present an authorization issued before a notary public.
- The authorization must include copies of both parents’ or guardians’ official identifications.
Unaccompanied Minors:
- These requirements also apply to minors traveling alone.

Special Situations:

In cases where a minor is traveling with only one parent or guardian, or if one parent is single, widowed, or divorced, corresponding legal documents must be presented to justify the situation.
