In order to be authorized to import and enter the national territory of your household goods, you must prove that you have already formalized your immigration status before the National Immigration Institute, by presenting the document that identifies your status of stay, in accordance with article 140 of the Customs Law regulations.

For this, you must present before the customs authority, multiple migratory form or you must exchange the visa granted by the Consular Representation for your respective migratory card that you must obtain within the first 30 days of your arrival before the National Institute of Migration, since in case of not obtaining this document, you will not be able to carry out the internment and importation of your household goods.

In order to be entitled to the exemption of the payment of taxes to the foreign trade for the import of the household goods in franchise, it is required to comply with the following terms, for which there is no extension:

  • That the passenger brings or carries the household goods.
  • That the household goods arrive or depart within the three months prior to the passenger's entry or departure.
  • That the household goods arrive up to six months after the date on which the person concerned has left the country of his last residence or that the household goods change to the country of his new residence.
  • It is important to note that the household goods consist of the following used goods:
    • Household furnishings and furniture that serve exclusively and properly for the ordinary use and treatment of a family (which does not stipulate a limit or maximum value).
    • Clothing, books, bookcases, works of art or scientific works that do not constitute complete collections for the installation of exhibitions or art galleries.
    • Scientific instruments of professionals, tools of workers and craftsmen indispensable for the development of the applicant's profession, art or trade (they may not constitute complete equipment for the installation of laboratories, offices or workshops).
    • Those necessary for the performance of journalistic work for press, radio or television.

Used goods are understood to be those that the applicant acquired six months before the household goods are intended to be imported.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
To process the Certificate to list of Household Goods before sending the belongings.
The Certificate is issued only at Mexican Consular Offices abroad.
In all cases a customs broker must be hired to release the belongings from the bonded warehouse.
In those cases in which for some reason the interested party cannot go to the Consular Office to request the Certificate, he/she may appoint through a public deed or simple power of attorney (that complies with the formality of having two witnesses, as well as a copy of their identifications) a representative, so that in his/her name and representation he/she may carry out the pertinent steps to obtain this document. It is worth mentioning that he/she must comply with all the requirements established for such purpose.

At the port of entry to the national territory, importers will request to the customs authority, through a customs broker, the tax exemption of their household goods and must show the Household Goods List Certificate.
