FAQ COVID-19       ESPAÑOL        ITALIANO

As of June 1, 2022, to travel and enter Italy it is NO longer necessary to present vaccination certificates, disease discharge certificates or COVID tests. Travel and entry to Italy also does not require a Green Pass or equivalent certification.

The removal of the limitations on travel to/from Italy does not exclude that some Countries, through which it is necessary to transit to reach Italy, may still establish limits for the entry of travelers coming from abroad.

It is recommended to consult the Country of interest (Scheda Paese) on the ViaggiareSicuri website to verify any restrictions on entry by local authorities

  • Aircraft providing commercial passenger transport services;
  • ships and ferries providing interregional transport services;
  • trains used in interregional, Intercity, Intercity Night and High-Speed rail passenger transport services;
  • regular buses and coaches providing transport services between more than two regions;
  • buses and coaches for hire with driver;
  • local or regional means of public transport;
  • school buses and coaches for elementary, junior high and senior high school students;
  • shows open to the public in theaters, concert halls, movie theaters, live music and performance halls and other similar venues;
  • sporting events and competitions that take place indoors.

The obligation to wear respiratory protection means is in force, until June 15, also for users, visitors and workers of health, socio-health and care facilities, including sheltered and long-term structures, assisted health residences (RSA), hospices, rehabilitation structures, residential structures for the elderly, even not self-sufficient.

The use of respiratory protection equipment is also recommended in all indoor public places or places open to the public.

In any case, the obligation to wear masks shall not apply to:

  • children under 6 years of age;
  • persons who, due to their disability or pathology, cannot wear a mask;
  • operators or persons who, in order to assist a person with a disability, cannot in turn wear the mask (for example: who must speak in L.I.S. with a deaf person).

In addition, it is not mandatory to wear a mask:

  • while practicing sport;
  • while eating or drinking, in the places and at the hours when it is allowed;
  • while dancing in discotheques, dance halls and similar establishments;
  • when, due to the characteristics of the places or the factual circumstances, the isolation of persons who do not live together is guaranteed on a continuous basis

The most recent information we have is that the authorities and private establishments accept certificates issued by the United States, Canada, Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom, without the need to show a green pass, as long as the following vaccines are included in these certificates:

  1. Comirnaty (PfizerBioNtech);
  2. Spikevax (Moderna);
  3. Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca);
  4. COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen (Janssen-Johnson & Johnson).

Mexico, however, is not among the countries whose certificates are automatically recognized.  In this context, you can obtain the Green Pass after having been vaccinated in a third country with one of the four above-mentioned vaccines if:

  • You are Italian vaccinated abroad
  • If you are a foreigner domiciled in Italy

The above is consistent with the circular dated September 23, 2021, which states that called Green Passport (Green Pass), can be obtained by Italian citizens (including residents abroad) and their family members; or by foreign citizens who are in Italy for work or study, regardless of whether they are registered with the national health service, provided they have been vaccinated with one of the vaccines listed above.

To obtain it, the vaccination certificate to be validated must contain at least the following data:

  • Identification of the Certificate Holder (name, surname, date of birth);
  • The relative ones to the vaccine (name and lot);
  • The date(s) of application of the vaccines; and
  • Identification of who granted the certificate (State, sanitary authority).

The vaccination certificate in paper or digital format must be written in at least one of the following languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish or German. The certificates will be valid for the same period as the green certificate issued by the Italian State. The procedure is carried out before the sanitary authority of competence in the Italian territory (Aziende Sanitarie locali di competenza territoriale).  In the case of Rome https://www.aslroma1.it/news/equipollenza-certificazioni-vaccinali-e-di-guarigione-da-stati-esteri

For foreigners passing through Italy, the easiest way to obtain a Green Pass is based on a PCR test, except that the Green Pass will be valid for a limited period of time (72 hours), which means that it will have to be tested periodically.

It should be clarified that the Green Pass is not an entry document nor does it constitute a stay permit, but is issued so that the bearer may enter restaurants (covered section), gyms, movie theaters, travel by plane and long distance trains, participate in events in closed venues (including weddings) and attend classes at universities.
