Visas

The Embassy of Mexico in Iran only accepts applications for visitor visas for non-remunerated activities, such as tourism, business meetings and participation in conferences in Mexican territory. For work or family reunification visas, the sponsoring employer in Mexico must file the application at any office of the National Institute of Migration https://www.gob.mx/inm.

Visa applications are strictly personal and are made by appointment only, which can be booked through the following website: https://citas.sre.gob.mx/.

Only once the appointment is confirmed, applicants may appear in person at our offices in Tehran.

The requirements to apply for a visa to Mexico are as follows:

  • Visa Application Form (VAF) duly completed and signed by each applicant. Download the pdf version here: https://embamex.sre.gob.mx/iran/images/pdf/SolicitudVisas.pdf
  • Recent color photo with white background. This photo cannot have been taken more than 6 months ago.
  • Passport (original and 1 copy), with a minimum validity of six months from the expected date of entry to Mexico. Previous passports and visas or entry stamps (original and 1 copy). These documents must be dated up to 2 years prior to the expected date of travel.
  • Proof of economic solvency: a) Letter from applicant's employer indicating salary, seniority and position; b) Applicant's bank statements for the last six (6) months (original and 1 copy) indicating current account balance and opening date; c) Last three (3) work pay stubs.
  • Social security records.
  • In the case of economic dependents, proof of the family relationship with the Mexican national with whom the applicant intends to travel.
  • If applicable, property deeds.
  • Proof of permanent or temporary legal residence, or proof of legal entry, if not a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • Travel itinerary or round-trip airline ticket (and 1 copy).
  • Intended address and/or hotel reservation.
  • Payment of consular fees. The non-refundable fee is USD $53.00 to be received in cash.

 

Please note that letters of invitation are only valid for official travel*. Letters of invitation are not accepted for personal or private travel or for prospecting or negotiations. A letter of invitation is only considered valid if:

  1. it is issued by a public or private organization established in Mexico and is officially recognized by the Mexican government and is issued on letterhead;
  2. specifies the contact information and address of the organization: personal data of the applicant, purpose, place and duration of the trip; and that the inviting institution is responsible for the expenses of your trip (for this purpose, you must attach bank statements of the institution/organization for the last 12 months); and
  3. is duly signed and a copy of the official identification of the legal representative/officer of the inviting institution/organization is attached.

*This type of letter is also required for sports competitions, in which case you must also submit the list of invited athletes/competitors with their respective passport number.

 

Please note:

  • The personal presence of the applicant(s) is mandatory for biometric processing and consular interview. We will take a photograph and fingerprints, and an interview will be conducted to confirm the reason for travel.
  • For each supporting document, you must submit the original and one copy.
  • All of the above documents must be submitted in (or translated into) Spanish or English and legalized/certified by the appropriate government authorities.
  • The Consular Section may request other supporting documents on a case-by-case basis.
  • An application without the complete set of the above documents may result in the denial of your visa application.

 

** IMPORTANT NOTES:

The Embassy only accepts visa applications directly from applicants and does not work with intermediaries, such as travel agencies. Appointments are free of charge and must be obtained directly by each applicant from the website https://citas.sre.gob.mx/. If someone offers to expedite your application or consular interview appointment in exchange for payment, please report it anonymously to This email address is being protected from spambots. For confidentiality and personal data protection reasons, we do not provide information to third parties about visa applications of applicants.

Having a Mexican visa grants the possibility to travel to the country, but entry to Mexican territory is subject to the final decision of the country's immigration authorities.

 

Family Unification Visa

 

Family Unification Visa

Please note that marriages between foreigners and Mexican nationals cannot be performed at Mexican Consular Offices abroad. To do so, you must get married complying with the requirements of the civil registry offices, either in Mexico or abroad. Subsequently, you may request the legalization of the marriage certificate before this Embassy, in order to be able to apply for a family reunification visa, which is issued when the applicant's intention is to reside in Mexico.

For this purpose, there are two options:

For procedures outside, in this case at this consular office, the application only applies when the Mexican or visa or resident card holder is in Iran and accompanies his or her family member to the consular interview.

In the case of choosing to do the procedure from Mexico, the family member has the option of going to the National Institute of Migration (INM) and requesting directly to the INM the internment of his/her family member. In all cases the applicant must present

  1. Visa application form duly filled out. You can download it here: https://embamex.sre.gob.mx/iran/images/pdf/SolicitudVisas.pdf
  2. Valid passport and copy of the main page of the passport (with photo and personal data) and of the visa pages of the last two years.
  3.  A recent photograph (maximum six months old) with the face visible and without glasses, in color, size 39.0 millimeters x 31.0 millimeters, with white background and front view.
  4.  If the family relationship is with the spouse of a Mexican citizen, you must also:
  1. Prove Mexican nationality by means of: original and copy of any of the following documents: Passport, Mexican Birth Certificate, Letter of Naturalization.
  2. Present original and copy of the marriage certificate, legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the petitioner's country of nationality and/or the marriage certificate issued by the Civil Registry in Mexico.
  3. Payment of fees, depending on the office where the procedure will be carried out: Mexico or abroad. Please refer to current tables according to the Federal Law of Fees (At the Embassy this payment corresponds to a non-refundable consular fee of USD 53 dollars which will be charged in cash).

This Embassy does not have the authority to intercede with the Iranian authorities or third countries in the visa application process to enter their territory. For this purpose, you must go to the Iranian consular office nearest to your place of residence.

The foreigner who obtains a Permanent Resident, Temporary Resident or Temporary Resident Student visa, must apply for a residence card to the National Immigration Institute (http://www.inm.gob.mx) within the following 30 calendar days from the date of his/her entry into Mexico, which will certify his/her legal stay and allow him/her to remain in the national territory.

Student Visa

 

Student Visa ( for more than 180 days)

 

Foreigners who wish to remain in Mexico for a period of more than 180 days to attend courses, carry out studies or conduct research projects in an educational institution belonging to the National Educational System in Mexico, must personally apply for a Student Temporary Resident Visa. To do so, you must first obtain an appointment through the web page https://citas.sre.gob.mx

 

The requirements you must comply with to obtain a Mexican visa as a temporary resident student are:

 

  1. Visa application form (VAF) duly completed and signed by each applicant. Download the pdf version here: https://embamex.sre.gob.mx/iran/images/pdf/SolicitudVisas.pdf
  2. Valid passport or travel and identity document, original and photocopy of the page containing the photograph and personal data.
  3. Original and photocopy of the immigration document proving your legal stay in Iran (only for applicants who are not Iranian citizens).
  4. A photograph of 3.9 cm x 3.1 cm, uncovered face, without glasses, front view, in color and white background.
  5. Payment of non-refundable consular fees: USD $53.00  to be received in cash.
  6. To present the documents that accredit some of the following assumptions:

 

  1. Original and photocopy of the letter of acceptance from the institution where the applicant intends to study. This letter must include:
    • Full name of the applicant (same as in the passport).
    • Level, grade and area of study to be studied.
    • Name of the course to which the applicant has been accepted.
    • Start and end dates of the course.
    • Cost of tuition and other academic fees.
    • Contact information of the educational institution.
    • Proof of financial solvency, original and one photocopy, which may be:

 

  1. Original and photocopy of documents proving that the applicant has a scholarship (letter from educational institution proving the awarding of the scholarship and the amount of the scholarship that the student will receive).
  2. Original and photocopy of bank statements or investments of the last three (3) months showing sufficient resources to support the applicant in Mexico, if over 25 years of age and letter from the bank with the date of opening the account.
  3. In case of applicants under 25 years of age, the applicant may present original and photocopy of bank statements of the last three (3) months of their parents. They must also include a copy of passport and birth certificate showing the name of the parents, duly translated and legalized.

 

  1. b) Under an international legal instrument on mobility of persons. Original and photocopy of the letter of acceptance from the institution where the applicant intends to study clearly stating the legal instrument supporting his/her application.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

 

If you received a CONACYT scholarship offer from the Government of Mexico, in addition to the letter of acceptance from the University where you will be pursuing your program of study, this Consular Office must receive prior written authorization from Mexico, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to process your visa.

 

Visa for sports competition

 

 

Visa for sports competition

Persons wishing to participate as individual competitors or members of a delegation for a sporting event to be held in Mexico must apply for a temporary visitor's visa without permission to engage in paid activities (tourist visa).

Visa applications are strictly personal and are made by appointment only, bookable through the following website: https://citas.sre.gob.mx/. Only after an appointment has been confirmed, applicants may appear in person at our offices in Tehran. To avoid inconveniences and/or delays, it is strongly recommended to apply early (no later than 8 weeks before the date of the event).

The requirements for applying for a temporary visitor visa to participate in a sports competition/event are as follows: 

  1. Visa Application Form (VAF) duly completed and signed by each applicant. Download the pdf format version here: https://embamex.sre.gob.mx/iran/images/pdf/SolicitudVisas.pdf
  2. Recent color photo with white background. This photo cannot have been taken more than 6 months ago.
  3. Passport (original and 1 copy), valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of entry to Mexico. Previous passports and visas or entry stamps (original and 1 copy). These documents must be up to 2 years prior to the intended date of travel.
  4. Proof of permanent or temporary legal residence, or legal entry will be necessary, if you are not a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  5. Travel schedule or return plane ticket (and 1 copy)
  6. Intended address and/or hotel reservation.
  7. Non-refundable consular fee: USD $53.00 which will be received in cash.
  8. Letter of invitation. A letter of invitation is only considered valid if:
    • it is issued by a public or private organization established in Mexico and is officially recognized by the Mexican government and is issued on letterhead;
    • specifies the contact information and address of the organization: personal data of the applicant, purpose, place and duration of the trip; and that the inviting institution is responsible for the expenses of your trip (for this purpose, you must attach bank statements of the institution/organization for the last 12 months-see below point 9); and
    • is duly signed and a copy of the official identification of the legal representative/officer of the inviting institution/organization is attached.
    • Include all participants. Must include the list of invited athletes/competitors in sports competitions with their respective passport number.
  9. Proof of economic solvency:
  10. If the guest competitor/participant IS SPONSORED, to prove financial solvency, it is absolutely essential that each individual competitors/member of a delegation also submit ONE OF THE FOLLOWING documents that clearly demonstrate having sufficient funds to support them as individual competitors/member of a delegation during their stay in Mexico:
    • Proof of financial solvency from the Sports Federation of the country of origin with original and copies in English of the organization's bank statements or investments (last 12 months) This includes but is not limited to original and copies in English of bank statements or proof of investments.

-or-

  • Proof of financial solvency of the Mexican organizing committee of the competition, in case the expenses of its members are covered by its organization (for the last 12 months).
  1. If the guest competitor/participant is NOT SPONSORED and will cover his/her own expenses in Mexico, to prove financial solvency, individual competitors/member of a delegation MUST submit the following: a) Letter from applicant’s employer stating salary, length of employment and position; b) Statements of the applicant’s bank account of the last six (6) months (original and 1 copy) stating the current account balance and date of opening; c) Last three (3) work payment slips. d) social security records; e) If applicable, property deeds.

 

Please note that:

  • For every supporting document, you must provide the original and one copy. 
  • All the above-mentioned documents are to be presented in (or translated to) Spanish or English. 
  • An application without the complete set of above-mentioned documents may result in a rejection of your visa application.
