Calakmul is declared as a UNESCO World Heritage

The ancient city and the tropical forests were declared oficially as a World cultural and natural Heritage by UNESCO on 4th of August. Mexico has sites on the World Organization's list among which 27 are cultural and 4 are natural. With this successful candidacy Calakmul became the first Mixed Site declared as a World Heritage. Calakmul has the second largest tropical forest in America and it gives home for many types of mammals, birds and dozens of species of reptiles, as well as more hundreds of butterfiles live here.
