Mexicans who have established their homes abroad for more than six months have the right, for only one time, to be exempted from the payment of taxes in importing/ transporting their household items to Mexico.

The household items should be made up of personal belongings and items used by the applicant and his/her family during their stay abroad, such as: clothes, books, furniture, and works of science or arts which must not constitute complete collections for setting up exhibitions or art galleries, scientific instruments for professionals, and tools for workers and craftsmen, provided they do not integrate a workshop.

Household items do not include automobiles, beverages or pets.

Requirements:

  1. Schedule an appointment.
  2. Bring along an original and photocopy of a valid passport.
  3. Application letter signed by the applicant and sent to the Consular Section specifying the period in which s/he resided in Ghana and indicating the current residence, number of family members and the address where his new settlement in Mexico is located. Finally, it should include the phrase, "I declare under penalty of perjury that my return is final ". It must be submitted in four copies and with original signatures on each copy.

 

Kindly note that it must be printed in four copies with each form bearing an original signature. All its content must be listed by indicating the box number, quantity and a description of the items in it. In the case of electronic gadgets, the brand name, model and serial number should be indicated.

  1. Provide proof of residence in Ghana for more than six months, by presenting an original and two photocopies of any of the following documents:
  2. Pay slips or appointment letter.
  3. Written evidence of studentship in the case of students.
  4. Rental agreement or house purchasing agreement.
  5. Receipts of electricity, gas or telephone bills in the name of the applicant.
  6. Payment (in cash) of the corresponding fees at the designated bank in Ghana.

NB: Only household items used by the family can be imported.
