Customs information
Carrying goods to Mexico
Passengers are allowed to bring, free of duty, merchandise in their personal luggage when entering the country. These include, among other things:
- Items for personal use, such as clothing and footwear
- 2 cameras
- 3 mobile phones
- 1 laptop computer
- Medical supplies for personal use (a medical prescription is required if these contain narcotic substances)
- Up to 10 cigarette packs, 25 cigars or 200 grams of tobacco, if the person is over 18 years of age

African swine fever
Please note that, in order to prevent the spread of highly contagious African swine fever (ASF), it is currently prohibited to import into Mexico pork products from the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, China, Korea, Ivory Coast, Slovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Italia (Sardinia), Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Moldavia, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.
Upon arrival to Mexico, passengers traveling from the above mentioned countries must declare if they have been in contact with farm or zoo animals during the last 15 days before their trip.
The control measures will remain in place until the situation has been re-evaluated in the countries where the African swine fever is endemic.

Removal of household goods
Removal of household goods
Requirements:
1 Visa to live or work in Mexico, issued by the Ministry of the Interior of Mexico or any Mexican Embassy or Consulate.
2 Original and three photocopies of the household’s goods inventory in Spanish and typewritten. The inventory must contain the applicant´s address abroad, his/her address in Mexico and should be signed by applicant.
3 Electronic items must be described including the model, serial number and brand.
4 If the residence in Mexico will be temporary, a letter of commitment to remove the goods from Mexico upon leaving the country, and to notify the immigration authorities in case of change of address in Mexico.
5 Proof of payment of applicable fee. Please contact the Embassy to obtain the most updated fee.

Visas
Foreign nationals exempted from visa to travel to Mexico as non-lucrative visitors (tourism, business visitor, in transit, correspondent, medical treatment) for a stay up to 180 days:
- Finnish and Estonian ordinary passport holders (NO Alien's passport) and those from the countries mentioned in the list published on the Migration National Institute or listed below do not require a visa to travel to Mexico as non-lucrative visitors:
Argentina, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda (UK), Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Curacao (The Netherlands), Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Guadalupe (France), Guam, Hong Kong, Hungary Iceland, Irlanda, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lichenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macao, Malaysia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Monaco, The Netherland Antilles, New Zealand, Norway, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, The Bahamas, The Netherlands, The United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Virgin Islands (USA), Uruguay.
These regulations are also applied to British citizens of the British Antarctic Territory, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, Montserrat, Isle of Man, St Helena and Dependencies (Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha), Turk and Caicos Islands, Pitcairn Island, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, Sovereign Base Areas on Akrotiri and Dhekelia. In these cases, British passports state respect of the holder as an "Overseas British Citizen" or "Overseas British subject".
Republic of Colombia passport holders must pre-register for their trip by filling out the form at the following link: https://www.inm.gob.mx/spublic/portal/inmex.html
- Foreign nationals, regardless of their nationality - exempt holders of UK travel documents (blue or black)- holding a valid USA B1/B2 visa, UK C- visitor visa, Canadian visitor visa, Japanese visitor visa or Schengen C-visit visa stamped in a valid passport, provided that the visa is to be issued for multiple entries and continues to be valid during the intended period of stay in Mexico do not require a visa to travel to Mexico as non-lucrative visitors.
For Finnish residence permits, the exemption applies only to those holders of a Permanent residence permit (Type "P" or with the word "Permanent")
This migratory regulation does not apply to temporary residents (temporary residence card) as they require to apply for a Mexican visitor visa. Neither to Finnish resident permit type "a"or "b". Estonian temporary residence permit holders and Alien passport holders require a Mexican visa.
III. Permanent resident in the United Kingdom (ILR / ILE / PERMANENT RESIDENTS). Proof of permanent residence in the United Kingdom.
VISA TYPES
Visitor Visa: Tourism or Business
For foreigners entering Mexico as visitors without permission to engage in paid activities and staying up to 180 days.
Requirements:
- Valid passport or travel document (original).
- Proof of legal stay if applying in a third country.
- Documents supporting one of the following:
- Strong ties to the country of residence
- Economic solvency
- Invitation from an organization or institution
- Driver of cargo transport
- Humanitarian reasons
- Scientific research or sample collection (with prior authorization)
- Studies
- Participation in a government-sponsored event (max. 180 days)

For eligible nationalities traveling by air.

- Completed online application
- Digital photo (passport-style, 2–5 MB, JPG/PNG)
- Image of passport data page (2–5 MB, JPG/PNG)
- Air travel to Mexico
- Fee paid as per the Federal Fees Law

Visitor Visa for Adoption Process
For nationals/residents of countries party to the Hague Adoption Convention or with a bilateral agreement with Mexico.
Requirements:
- Valid passport (original)
- Adoption suitability report from DIF (original)
- Acceptance of child assignment by the receiving country's Central Authority
- Fee as per the Federal Fees Law

Visas Authorized by the National Immigration Institute (INM)
Apply initially through INM for:

- Temporary residence (job offer or family unity)

Important Notice:
A visa does not guarantee entry into Mexico. Entry is subject to approval by health and immigration officers at ports of entry, who may conduct an interview and verify documentation (Articles 37, Migration Law; 60, its Regulations).
