The Embassy of Mexico in the United States informs that Ambassador Gerónimo Gutiérrez and other embassy officials held a work meeting today with Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), as part of the efforts to broaden and strengthen dialogue with the United States Congress.
Senator Ernst is a member of the Committee on Armed Services; Environment and Public Works; Small Business and Administration; and Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and she serves as Chairman of the Subcomittee on Rural Development and Energy.
Ambassador Gutiérrez and Senator Ernst discussed topics of mutual interest in the bilateral relationship, particularly the strong trade and agricultural ties between Mexico and Iowa.
In 2016, trade between Mexico and Iowa surpassed 3.5 billion dollars, and our country is Iowa’s second largest export market, especially on the agricultural sector.
These types of meetings are part of an agenda that the Ambassador and other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs carry out on a regular basis to identify points of agreement and areas of collaboration with key actors in the United States.
