President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sends a congratulatory message to President Moon Jae-in to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the Republic of Korea
Seoul.- The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, conveyed a congratulatory message to the President of the Republic of Korea, Moon Jae-in, and to the South Korean people, on the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the Republic of Korea.
In his message, President López Obrador celebrated that, throughout six decades of institutional relations, Mexico and the Republic of Korea have successfully forged a constructive relation based on "close bonds that unite us in the political, economic and cooperation spheres”. Referring to the Strategic Association for Mutual Prosperity, agreed by both countries in 2005, the Mexican President noted that the countries’ enhanced cooperation has been reflected at the bilateral and multilateral arena.
President López Obrador assured that this 60th anniversary -with special significance in Korean culture- opens a "new stage of our common history, based on affinity, solidarity and mutual respect", while expressing his certainty that Mexico and the Republic of Korea will continue to build a future for the well-being of societies of both nations.
Mexico and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on January 26, 1962. Despite the geographical distance and cultural differences, the two countries have successfully forged a relation based on mutual trust and cooperation, boosted by intertwined interests and by a deep affinity between both societies. With a total trade of more than 20 billion dollars every year, the Republic of Korea has become Mexico's fourth largest trading partner in the world, while Mexico is Korea's main market in Latin America.
