The Ambassador of Mexico, Francisco Suárez Dávila, participated as a panelist in the conference Emerging Market Economic Trends, presented by the Ottawa Chapter of the Economic Club of Canada. Along with Ambassador Suárez Dávila, participants included Brazilian Ambassador to Canada, Pedro Fernando Brêtas Bastos, Scotiabank’s Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, Warren Jestin, and its Vice-President, International Research, Pablo Bréard

The panel, the first in the series "The Diplomatic Chat", was dedicated to analyzing economic trends from emerging markets for 2014. The vice presidents from Sociabank spoke about the potential that emerging markets offer to Canada and mentioned that Scotiabank is expanding operations in certain Latin American countries, including Mexico. During his speech, Ambassador Suárez Dávila noted that Mexico is an attractive market because of the stre
ngth and openness of its economy, which is characterized by low public debt, a flexible exchange rate and low inflation. He said that structural reforms passed last year will set the stage for Mexico to achieve sustained growth.
